Wait for the cheaper version (which I guess most of you are doing since I am the only one to reply to the original download message, I should have researched it more from the original post on this game)...just an honest assessment, good game, but not one for which I would have normally paid extra. Nice puzzles, lots of hidden objects some of which I didn't know what they were (I'm really more interested in puzzles but I did learn some English items that I wouldn't have known), extras just are not worth it. But I had fun, so I guess that is all I've got to say. wave

Thanks Jodi, I think many of us are waiting. It looks good, but I rarely, if ever look at a walkthrough so paying extra to get it included doesn't excite me. lol I'll purchase it when the regular version comes out.

Ana...I never used the "walkthrough", but I did look at it at one point just to see what it contained. It wasn't a "regular" walkthrough as I saw it, it just contained hints to help you through the puzzles if you had problems. However, I backed into the solving of one puzzle that I have yet to understand, so since I still have it on my computer I am going to see about that one puzzle and will investigate the real workings of the thing.

Jody (who also doesn't use walkthroughs unless completely baffled and hopelessly lost, which I have to admit happens! laugh )

I would advise Wait.
That is what I have decided to do.
Purchased "MCF: Dire Grove" Coll Ed. and see now
the $6.99 version has a Blog Walkthrough available
just as the other regular priced games.

If BFG or other sites wish to raise their fees,
I have no problem paying $7.99 for the regular games,
or even $9.99 for a Collector's Edition.
Believe I'm not the only one who feels this way.
That in itself would creae a good bit of extra revenue wouldn't it?

I wish Collector's Edition would be like MCF :Dire in having extra things to find like Dire did with the morphing items. I really liked that a lot. This one looks like a good game and will pick it up once regualr version comes out.

I played for the trial hour, decent enough game, but no game is worth paying more than a club credit imho.

I've been a member of BFG since June '07 and have purchased 46 games (I just counted). Shouldn't have to pay extra ever for a game...

Besides, if I really need a walkthrough, I just come here and Mag or Tigre helps me out every time! laugh

Thanks!

Okay, I'm a long term and devoted member of Big Fish, so I've given these a real chance by buying all three of the Collector's Editions released.

While the games have all been entertaining, only Dire Grove is, in my opinion, a real "collector's" item, and worth the extra fees.

I didn't want to judge until I tested enough of them for what I feel is a fair opinion, and, while I'm a big believer in supporting small developers, this sort of strategy in a still rocky economy is not the best marketing ploy. wink

Like Ana, I rarely use hints, but, should I need one, well--I'm a Boomer!

Just had to give my 2 cents.I bought both Dire Grove, and the Edgar Allen Poe Collectors editions. I felt Dire was worth it, Poe was not. I spent $40 for these two games. I demo'd Sweeny Todd, and it seems that some of the extra's don't even unlock until you finish the game. I very rarely have time to play a game a second time. So I don't want end up spending $60 for 3 games. I will wait for the regular game. I did enjoy the time I played and will get it when it comes out at the lower price.

The nice thing is that this is totally optional, you have a trial version, it does not count as the New Game when it is released and you always get the normal game like before. Having a collector's edition allows the budgets for future games to almost double. One of the big benefits is early access. The bonus features are there to reward folks who puchase for early access.

People complain a lot about how short games are lately. This is a way to allow the avid gamers to pay for early access and some extras to increase bugets without hurting those who are on tight budgets. These CE purchasers now help fund half the budget of future games so they can be longer and higher quality. Then in turn, the folks that wait for the regular game actually benefit from the larger game budgets paid for by the CE purchasers.

So if you wait for the regular version, that is fine for you, but respect the people who buy the CE version as they allow developers to increase their developement budgets without going bankrupt! This game was developed with a budget that assumed the additional revenue from the Collector's Edition...without it, the game would have been shorter or of lower quality to make it for less costs.

If we simply raised prices (like to $7.99), not only would there be a customer revolt, but we would sell proportionally fewer games and thus the developer makes no more money. Also higher prices would also hit those that are in tough economic times to be able to play less games. While some may not like to wait, this does solve a very real problem for both developers and economically hard hit customers.

So if you can't afford it or do not like it you should not buy it, but you should also respect those who do, as it benefits you!

Just trying to share BFG's and developers' perspectives.

Thanks, BFG-Guy.

I find that Sweeney Todd has definite replayability and is a fun game.

Hi BFG-Guy

I have no problem spending the extra cash if I feel the game is worth it. I completely understand the cost of making these games can run quite high. I think it is a good thing that we have a choice depending on the game and the size of our wallets. Thank you for always providing your customers with the best quality games and the different price options.

Oh, Thracia, I hope you weren't offended by my comment, as that was strictly about me and my experience, and in no way was meant to reflect on anything else.

BFG-Guy also makes some very valid points. It's a fine line, as more and more is demanded all the time, and developers can't really operate with no revenue.

For me, I will look carefully before I buy the next edition, but, if it's anything like Dire Grove, I'm going to be all over it. laugh

Hey Cynder,

No offense taken. The economy being what it is, I like the idea of offering a game with both price options. That way no-one gets left out.

I do know we(GB's) ended up in a similar discussion when Dire Grove first came out. And I think it all worked out for the best, for everyone, in the end.

BFG-GUy, I have no problem with the two-tired releases one bit. I appreciate the choice. I was surprised that the Fall TRilogy was not a collectors edition though as Kheops makes phenomenal 1st rate games.

I bought Dire Grove collector's edition, and really enjoyed playing it. I loved the trial of Penny Dreadfuls, but am going to wait for the lower cost regular version.

I can afford a collector's version occasionally, but not every time as I would like.

The process seems extremely reasonable for both gamers and the artists and producers of these games. :winter:

Bless you BFG for making games reasonable and better!

Happy Trails!

Why not make CE games worth 2 or 3 game credits? I get charged my 6.99 + tax every month anyway as all club members and this way there's no cash involved. At this point, unless I can empathize with a protagonist in a game, I don't buy it. But sometimes I do find, with life being busy, that I have 2 or 3 credits available. I would have no problem using up more than 1 for a CE!

just a thought....

I hope that my assessment of Penny Dred was not offensive to Big Fish. I was just trying to be honest. I loved Dire Grove and would again pay the extra, but I didn't think for me personally that this one was. I also understand fully that the cost factor for games to be published is extreme...and for that I often buy the full version from the original "maker".

Please BF Guy, don't think I won't pay again for a collector's edition...I will, but I just think I will be more careful in my selection process and study more of what the extras entail before I buy.

I thank BF every day as I enjoy playing games and for their vigilience on helping out when there is a problem with the game. This is made possible by salaries of people who care...and THAT makes it worth it.

I found this game to be well worth the price. Excellant graphics, story line, some humor and very good built in hint system. In fact the hint system is better than most, because it gives you several levels of hints, such as a nudge, thump and shove.

If they offer a trial hour, thats a very good way to look and see for yourself. I am on a budget like most of us, however, I do enjoy a steak now and then.

!!! Just found this on Big Fish!!!

Collector's Edition is now worth 3x on Punch Card

by picman050967 on Jan 14, 10 3:54 PM

We always listen to our customers, but like wine, good things take time.

Retroactive back to January 1st, all Collector's Edition purchases count as 3 punches on your Game Club Monthly Punch card!

You will not see this on your purchase updates until next week, but I have received a firm commitment from engineering that it will be done in the next week and they can make it apply retroactive to ALL Collector's editions purchased earlier in January. As before we will still count 100% off Bonus Credits and $2.99 daily deal purchases towards your punch card as well.

This will be a permanent new feature for Big Fish Game Club members, not just for January!
