Black Mirror 2 loaded fine and starts playing but the sound stutters. Thought would go into Options and reduce some settings(if necessary) but i have place my cursor On the little triangles and held and tried to move them and also on the opposite end of their line to reduce but cannot get them to move! What is the secret to getting those option sliders to move?? Reloaded and can move sliders(pointer just beneath the triangle)but sound still stutters/choppy.

Another thing you might want to check is the Acceleration settings (assuming you're running XP) in DXDiag.

Start DXDiag (Start, Run - or press the Windows Logo Key+R -- enter DXDiag and press Ok. You'll see the slider control on the Sound Tab.

this used laptop is an Emachines D620 Vista basic
amd processor 2650e 1.6 ghz
32bit
1G ram
Ati Radeon X1250
has something called RealTek sound manager...don't know wht to do with it...had an issue before about not being able to set up Aucacity on here..could not figure out how to do that.
don't know if that is what you need to know about the sound on here.
says driver up to date. don't see any place for adjustment like acceleration.

that is all info i can find on here about this machine...not used at all to vista..have hardly used it..except for internet access. would tell you guys nmore if knew where to look.
Inland..will the DXDiag info you gave above work for Vista?

No, you can't reduce audio acceleration in Vista. Vista doesn't allow hardware audio acceleration, so there's nothing to reduce.

Is this your computer?

Check the laptop's settings and make sure they are set for "performance" and not for power saving. If the laptop downclocks to save energy, you can get problems like stuttering sound and sluggish response. Make sure you're not gaming on battery.

The manual doesn't state specifically how much memory your IGP has - I wonder if it meets the minimum requirements (128 MB)?

Try downloading GPU-Z - it will show you how much memory you have (as well as a host of other information, like the number of vertex and pixel shaders - and the shader model supported).

GPU-Z

Does it meet the minimum requirement?

Jenny100-You rock!! I changed the power setting to performance and the game now runs. At first during the run through the woods seems to be choppy in some areas but i can't tell if it is the way it actually is or not. Seemed to run fine and sound fine until got to the diner then seemed to be slowed down...and the main character out of sight with another..could hear conversation but took a long long time. The game does seem to be 'slow'. perhaps Norton was running (i don't know how to turn it off...if you know plz tell me). BUT at least game is running! (also in the Options i turned off AntiAliasing but didn't notice any real diff in performance.)

I'm glad to hear it's improved. The game shouldn't be "choppy," but with your shared video memory there may be some areas where you see choppiness or slowdowns.

I don't have Norton, but see if the instructions ***here*** refer to your version of Norton.

Gamenut,

Do you have a Norton Icon in the bar at the bottom of your desktop screen? If so, just right click on it and then click "disable anti virus auto protect". It will give you a couple of options regarding length of time you want to disable it for. Click on one of them and don't forget to enable it later by the same method.

If you don't have an icon at the bottom there, I'm not sure how to do it.

Jackie
