Hi everyone,

I downloaded this game from their web site. The first one played fine, but after I began playing the second one now it won't open. I uninstalled and downloaded again. Same problem. I keep getting a message that says "Monkey Island exe has stopped working. Has anyone had this problem? Could it be related to Quicktime? I had to download that and it seems to me that's when the problem began.

I would really appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks,

funkyhippy

funkyhippy,

Have you contacted 'them' and see if they can help.

Is this the original Monkey Island or Tales of Monkey Island?

I will move you to Glitches forum.

Why did you have to download that?
None of the Monkey Island games have ever used QuickTime. QuickTime is only used on some first person adventures. It's mainly found on games from the 1990's. The RHEM games are the only PC games I can think of that have used QuickTime in the past few years.

Is this the Monkey Island game you downloaded?

I downloaded the one from telltale games. I don't remember exactly why I downloaded Quicktime but at some point, perhaps not even because of this game, I got a message saying that I needed to download it and it took me to Adobe. It seems to me that ever since I've been having problems. After doing the download I found to my surprise that I also had McCafee which I didn't want since I already have AVG, so I uninstalled McCafee and my desktop icons for the game lost the image, I just had five squares! So today I started all over again uninstalling and downloading from the web site. I looked but didn't see any customer support, just a forum that didn't seem to deal with problems. My son says I may need to just completely reinstall Windows because the computer seems to be weird.

QuickTime comes from Apple, not Adobe.
Adobe makes Adobe Reader and Flash. There have been updates for Adobe products, and unless you uncheck the option during the install you may end up with something you don't want, like a demo of McAfee or an unwanted toolbar. But Adobe does not make QuickTime.

If you have a restore point, you might try a system restore, going back to a point before your computer started acting strange. But if your computer is infected with malware that's causing the weird behavior, you may have to do a reinstall, like your son says.

If you have Vista or Win7, here's a site that tells how to use System Restore:
***Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore***
***Using System Restore in XP***

If that doesn't help, or makes things worse, consider a reformat.

Thanks Jenny,

I've been over at the Telltales web site trying to get this fixed, but no dice. Next time Adobe offers an update I will look at it more carefully. I think I´m just going to ask my son to reinstall.

Reinstalling should fix a lot of problems, including those caused by undetected malware. I'd still try system restore first.

And yes, make sure any Adobe updates you receive actually come from Adobe.
