Hello folks!
After seeing the yumminess that is soon to be Gothic 4 at E3 two weeks ago, and since I'm a bored with the two RPGs I'm trying to play -- Titan Quest (it's like mowing the lawn) and Rogue Galaxy (just losing interest) I thought I'd get busy and play Gothic 3.
Before I haul off and purchase it from Direct2Download, though, I thought I'd ask here once again, what is the best version (content-wise, patch-wise, etc.) for me to get? Is the "Fully patched" version on sale at D2D really the best one? Did any of the add-ons ever become worth playing?
I look forward to any advice. And thanks!!

Hi! I know I shouldn't need help on this, it's such an old issue, but there's such a proliferation of patches and versions of this game out there, I don't want to make a dumb move!

Hi Ray, check www.worldofgothic.com/gothic3That site has a lot of info on all the Gothic games. It has been a while since I played but remember the last community patch seemed to rectify most problems. Its a large patch which you can download from their site. Maybe Pokey will come by later, Gothic fundi. Good luck its a fun game

Hi Ray, I didn't have to use any patches, so I can't tell you about that. I liked the game, but it is so huge I had a hard time figuring out what to do or where to go next. The first 2 Gothics are amomg my favorite games, but I didn't like 3 as much. Gothic 4? Be still my heart!

Gothic 4 looks very pretty and very fun. The bad guy is . . . the character you played in the first three games!

As far I know there's only one add-on (official) and that's Forsaken Gods (made by a studio that is not Piranha Bytes). After Gothic 3, Jowood and Piranha Bytes had a sortof falling out, and PB decided to make Risen while Jowood (the publisher for G1-G3) decided to find another studio that's making G4 currently.
I think the pathces from the online services (D2D, Steam etc) only works with their version of the game - and the community patches does not work with these versions of the game. Bette5r check with the readme files, though, first, as I'm a bit unsure about this.
And yes, Nameless is the bad guy, since he now apparantly is a sort of hotshot, the big tomata, the head cheese in the world of gothic. So naturally, a new hero must arise...
Adventure gaming is fun

Ray, I had a lot of trouble getting Gothic 3 to run well on no less than three computers with decent specs (including this one, which has not failed me on recent games such as Dragaon Age, Mass Effect 2, and Oblivion), and I wasn't alone. The game ran, but was was pretty sluggish. I might get it up and running again now that 4 is coming out, because it was pretty decent, just didn't feel truly Gothic-like. The new, improved graphics didn't feel right. And the first two Gothics are among my top ten of all time.
But -- Nameless is the bad guy? See, I really do have to play 3, just to find out how that could have happened.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
