I sell a couple of download games from my site ( www.lasthalfofdarkness.com) Customers have been emailing me saying they are having trouble downloading the game files. The link works ok but after completing the download *SOMETIMES* the file contains errors. I usually email them back, letting them know that its best to use a "download manager" since they are large files. (and I provide a link to a free download manager) And that usually fixes it and they get the download fine. But just curious if other "GameBoomers" always use a download manager when downloading large game files? Or if they have experiences where they did NOT use a download manager for very large files and it worked fine too. It sort of seems wrong if they "absolutely have" to use a download manager (but maybe thats how - I dont download much so I dont know) I could understand if was a particular customer that has a bad connection or questionable internet service but it's been over 10 people in the past 3 weeks. Thanks for sharing any experiences downloading large games with and without download managers

Billy, Big Fish uses a download manager. So most casual gamers have used the BF download manager. You can't download BF games any other way. The Adventure Shop gives a link to a free download manager but you can download using the browser if you want. I skip the download manager myself. Steam has their own and also GamersGate. I will move you to Discussion forum to get the others give us their experience.

Thank you for sharing your experiences... gives me some insight on the percentage of people who use them.
I also sort of wonder what percentage of people are downloading demos from my site and getting errors and just thinking that the file is corrupt and that I havent bothered to fix it or something.
I probably will add a link next to the game and demo links - letting people know about the option of using one if they get errors.
Thanks

I download large file games without a download manager. So far no problems.

I've also downloaded large files with no problems using just my browser, Opera. I used it to download the demo for your upcoming game and it was easy peasy. Worked fine after install.

What about people who don't know what an md5 checksum is? What about us blondes? The download manager makes life (usually) less technical. That's what the Glitches Forum is for I'm in Jenny's camp, I always download the files directly. I've got a fairly stable line into the house, so it's not a issue.

I do not use a download manager either. The one time I did, I had issues and never tried it again. Ana

I don't use a download manager, and generally haven't had problems downloading large files.
I used to do customer support at Telltale (among other things!) and people reported this issue a lot. Sometimes if a download is interrupted, a temp file from the partial download is stored on the computer that can interfere with subsequent downloads. I always told people having this problem to clear their temporary internet files before trying again, and that often resolved the problem. It did seem like people who had this problem would have it over and over, which points to an issue with the internet connection.

I don't download many games at all - but when I do, I don't use a Download manager. And I've never experienced any problems

Billy, the only games I've personally ever downloaded is episode one of The Silver Lining, and although it took awhile to download (due to tons of people downloading at the same time) I downloaded it in one go without any use of a download manager.

I use a download manager for pretty much everything i download. I also have an md5 checker to confirm that the file is not corrupted or contains errors (provided i am given the md5 code). The greatest plus for me for a download manager is that many downloads i can continue downloading if i pause it or re-download something again provided the direct link doesn't change. Another plus is that download managers allow me to control my download speed.

I used to use a download manager when I had a slow connection; now I download directly.
The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....
