Hey everyone, Not sure if this topic has been talked about before, I don't get in here much. But I was curious about what people think I've played a few of the HOGs and myself, I find that regular adventure games are more personal. How do I explain this. I find that the HOG games even though they put a story to them, you have a bunch of objects on screen that you have to find or put back. Don't get me wrong I still love HOG games. I'm just finding a difference. Regular adventure games seems to pull you into the adventure. You have your character be it 1st person or 3rd and you interact with that character. Myself I feel more a part of the game with adventure than with HOG. Does anyone else feel this way. Also if you had a choice which do you prefer

I love the variety of "Adventure" games. Sometime I'm in the mood for an epic adventure and other times for a HOG or a "Part Deux". For me Adventure of any kind is a challenge and fun too!

I agree with you Jeanne, I also find HOGs boring but I;m enjoying the iHOGs like Dire Grove and the links have helped in what to buy next.
Has any one seen any little gray cells around as I think I've lost some? Reward for finder.

I'm really sorry about that. Thank you for the links, I will check out Becky's editorials Those people who don't like the HOG games, would you be put off playing a game that was a combo. For instance an adventure but with a few scenes HOG. Also, how about some of the HOG puzzles incorporated into adventure games. Myself I love the ripped up note puzzles. But then HOG wasn't the first to create those. Remember the old game Ripper with the ripped up note and broken cup and saucer. What type of puzzles do you like in adventure game. Sorry for all the questions but it helps me in my writing Thank you everyone for your input

I've played a few of them but HOGS are still really not my kind of thing And, like oldmariner I'm not keen on games released in episode form either - but I can get round that by saving up the episodes till I have all of them and then I play them one after the other - so it seems as if I'm playing one full length game. I'm doing it now with Tales of Monkey Island - and am very much enjoying it that way

Starlight, if you take an adventure game and throw in HOG scenes, you have a HOG game. It will not fall under the adventure category, it would be considered a casual. Ana

Thank you for you input everyone. Looks like I may have to rewrite this game because these HOG games don't seem to be as popular as I thought they were. Not sure Ana if that might be true or. Hard to say really. See I wrote this 3rd person adventure game. It plays like any other 3rd person game except when you go into certain areas it turns into an HOG part of the game. For instance if you need an object you get a list of items you have to find then you get the item, but then you play as the 3rd person adventure part. Does this make sense, I'm bad at trying to explain things. But if I even bother doing this game it's going to have to be rewritten. Thank you once again everyone. Your input was very helpful

You are asking about HOGs in the adventure forum. Most HOG players are in the casual forum. If you put HOG scenes in your game, it would not be discussed here in the adventure forum, I would have to place it in casual. Ana

StarLite Moon, If you asked this question on a casual game site like Big Fish you'd have an entirely different answer. They would say adventure games are waaaaay too boring, frustrating and difficult to control - exactly the things why WE play them:) However, there is a convergence between the two genres. If you love HOG scenes and puzzles you should not omit them just because we, adventure fans don't really like them. HOG fans do and they are many. As long as you create something genuine, consistent and good fun it can be a good game, whatever type. But of course it takes enormous effort and time to create a good adventure game. I assume it is easier and quicker to create a HOG - it seems they're being produced on the assembly line...

Thank you everyone for your input once again. Ana, I got what I needed for this study, if you want to delete the message, ok, or do you want me to delete it. Sorry I wasn't sure where to put it, I needed the input of the adventurers rather than the HOG players.

I prefer IHOGs to straight HOGs because they contain the element of adventure and have an actual storyline. I'm currently playing "Mystery Case Files - The 13th Skull" and it even has FMV scenes where you can interact with other characters. I just finished "Mystery Case Files - Dire Grove" and it had the same elements.
I started downloading HOGs last year to pass the time inbetween Adventure games but, when I played my first IHOG, I became totally addicted. I no longer buy straight HOGs because I find them boring.
IHOGs contain a lot of the features found in adventure games that I love (exploring various locations, puzzles and intriguing storylines), but most of them also contain HO scenes, which I can do without.

Starlite, we don't delete the threads, it will stay. Your thread is in the right place if you wanted opinions of adventure players, I was just letting you know that if you release a game with HOG scenes in it, it would be posted in the casual forum, not here in adventures. It would be classified as a casual. Ana
