I've hit a glitch at the end of Chapter 4. Right after the last cut scene ends, the game automatically takes me to the main menu. The problem is, there's no way to resume the game from the main menu. I've tried reloading a saved game and playing through the last events in the chapter in a different order, getting the cut scene again, and it always takes me to the main menu, making it impossible to progress to Chapter 5.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Is there any way to bypass the cut scene?

Maybe someone with a saved game from the start of Chapter 5 could help (if saves are transferrable).

Or here's another idea -- if the game lets you switch back and forth between English and German, try playing that last part of Chapter 4 in German -- just in case it's a problem with the English version of the cut scene.

Other than that, I don't know what to do other than try contacting the company you got it from -- which is going to be difficult if it was a German website.

There is a "skip the cutscene" feature, but that just takes me instantly out to the main menu again.

I'll see if I can change the language option and try that.

I could also go back to the very beginning of the chapter and replay events in a different order (which I hope I don't have to do).

EDIT: Well, it IS possible to switch over to German mid-game. I did, and the cut scene went by in German (which was interesting) but the result was the same -- the game booted me out to the main menu when the cut scene was finished. frown I wonder what peculiar thing I did earlier in the chapter to cause this? lol

EDIT AGAIN: I redid the chapter following lily.bart's walkthrough, and I'm still experiencing the problem. So it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the order in which I finished the subquests in the chapter. I'll have to contact the distributor.

Hi Becky,
Since I don't have this game yet, is there a setup in the Game's Options where you can turn everything off i.e. Shadows/Anti Aliaising/changing Screen resolutions/etc..

Just curious to see if that would work... or not..

Ray

Thanks for the suggestion! Yes, there's a Config utility, where I've changed everything to the lowest possible setting and it doesn't help.

I am wondering -- if anyone out there is running the game on Win 7 64-bit, and you've made it to Chapter 5 in the game -- what settings are you using in the Config utility?

The only person I know who's finished it is Lily.bart, who did the walkthrough. Maybe you could see if she has a saved game. Since you can switch between English and German, it wouldn't matter if you got a saved game from the German version, so you could also see if Slydos has one (she wrote a review of the German version).

I'm happy to report that Lily.bart's saved game worked and I'm now a good chunk of the way into Chapter 5.

Thanks everyone! wave

That's good news. If anyone else gets the same problem, that saved game may become popular.

I am so confused is this game out in English? Was there a demo for it? Where can I buy it? Becky I am soooo glad you didn't have to restart the game, no matter how great a game is, I hate restarting games and seldom do.

Gray Matter is out in a German/English version.
You pick the language you want. You can change the language during the game.

You can get it as a download using the instructions in Becky's post ***here***.

You can also get the disc version (both the Collector's and the normal versions) from amazon.de if you're willing to pay the big bucks. Shipping alone is about $14.

***Regular version***

***Collector's version***

If you want to wait until February next year, that is when the North American version is scheduled (not guaranteed) to come out, and it will probably cost less than the German/English disc version.
