I feel so silly having to ask a simple qustion but here goes: I need some help with downloading a game from The Adventure Shop...I donwnloaded their free download manager and the next step is to create a file folder on my desktop with name of the game...I don't know how to do this...as for the rest of the download I can give that a try on my own once I create a file...thank you. I never have to create a file if I download say from Big Fish games so this is new to me...

Hi linda,

This is how it works for XP: Right-click anywhere on your desktop and you'll see a pop-up menu appear. Move your cursor down to "New" and a side menu will appear. Click on "Folder" and a new folder will appear on your desktop. Click twice slowly inside the title bar of the folder that's appeared to be able to edit the text to the name of the game that you'll be downloading into it. luck

Thank you, managed to go that. Now I have another question. In my instructiions to finish downloading the game it says: after you ahve downloaded all the files double click on the exe file to start the installation. My question is: where is the exe file? The only exe file I see is the first file I pasted to my URL box...but when I double click on it I can't do anything. It keeps tellimg me the file is corrupted:runtime error...so what do I do now? Do I have to delete everything I did and start over? I went back and uninstalled the first file as it said it was corrupt...reinstalled it. It appears to be installed correctly. However when I click on the exe file for setup it ask for a disc...or to search for the file. However it won't accept the desktop file I made with the game name...I don't know what to do from here...any help appreciated...thank you.

Linda,

Take a look at the files in the folder you created on your desk top, and see if there isn't one that says Setup beside the name of the game and then over to the right, Application. That will be the one you want to install the game. They don't always say .exe.

Did you download all the files....?

Disk1
Disk2
Disk3
Disk4

You have to download all the files...

You have to download all the Bin files ...They are all different...

Also forget about desktop files...Just let the download manager save it to program files...

Delete everything ,and start over....Let the manager save the files for you...It will open a new folder in your program files...

I looked in the file on my desktop and it appears to be empty??? When I do the downloading of the 4 files (and yes I made sure I did all of them) when I go to the save: how to I put in the file is on my desktop? Maybe I didn't do that correctly? Thank you...

Forget about saving to desktop....

Let the manager open a new folder for you....All the files will be downloaded to that folder..

Start all over

linda, I think you sent the downloaded files to another folder. Do a search on your hard drive to find them. You shouldn't need to redownload them.

Those files should be there on her computer, though. Maybe, before starting all over, you could try going to your Start menu and doing a search for the name of the game, Linda. Since the game isn't installed yet, you can drag those files out of wherever they are and into your desktop folder.

I think as to not get confused ,Linda

Just start over....You can try doing a search, but that in itself might confuse you as to what file is what...

I know myself when I do a search for EXE files...I have hundreds that come up.. duh12

She doesn't have to do a search for .exe files, Dar, just the game's name. Say it's Machinarium. She'll only get results for that. And there may be no .exe file for it.

If that doesn't work for her, then she can always trudge back to the Adventure Shop and download again but I'd do that first.

I have downloaded many games from Adventure shop.....They send you an e:mail..Which you can download many times...When I downloaded Lost Horizon I made a mistake, and just deleted what I downloaded, and re did it..

I am assuming, Linda doesn't have dial-up..So broadband should be no problem..

This is the E:mail I got from the Adventure Shop everytime I download...

"Launch Free Download Manager and click on the "+" button in the top left. Copy the link of the File 1 below and paste it in the URL box in the 'add download' window that opened.
4 - In the "Save to Folder" box choose the folder that you created in step 2. Click on OK to start the download, once the download has finished repeat steps 3 and 4 for all the files to download etc...
5 - When you have downloaded all your files, double click on the .exe file to start the installation."

You do not need to save to folder..I let the manager make a folder for me...

You can download 6 times..After that you will have to contact support for more downloads..

But if she's already downloaded them, there's no reason to do it again. Just do a search, find them and install from there. Or if she wants, move them to the folder she's created on the desktop. Again, no reason to do another download if they're already on the computer.

Well once again I have to give a very big thank you to the wonderful people here at Gameboomers. Thanks to all of your help and suggestions I have managed to correctly download and launch my game.
Thank you so much. I would like to add I also learned something in the process to use another time. Hooray!
