Hello Everybody. Happy New Year to you all.

I realize that Zork Nemesis has been out for years but I couldn't resist playing a Hall of Famer. I followed Inferno's XP installation walkthrough for my XP machine and this great game is running well in XP, SP2. In fact it may be running too well...to the point that I've come to a standstill.

I've solved the bell ringing puzzle in the Monastery, pulled on the bell rope, a quick flash, a bell clanging and...nothing. I'm still on the same level and didn't get lifted up towards Malveoux's room. I resorted to a few walkthroughs to see what happened and even went through the entire game to this point again. I did everything to the tee. The Monastery is the first world outside the Agrippa Temple I've arrived in.

I slowed down my 2.6GHz Athlon to about 1.066GHz using a couple of utilities, which was the minimum it could go. I decreased the clocking voltage as well. The game ran just as fast. I ran the program in VirtualPC 2004 and 2007 for Win 95 and Win 98, respectively. The same thing. A quick flash (maybe 0.1s) after pulling the rope and that was all I saw.

I've spent more than 10 hours trying to get by this and get to Malveaux's room to no avail. Has any gamer experienced this before? I couldn't find a hit on the Web for this and was wondering if anyone still has a saved game at this point? Sorry about all the verbiage.

Thank you and best regards, Jesse.

Hi Jesse,

I've checked my sources for saved games, but none of them have any for this one. Hopefully someone here may still have their saves and can help us. If not, it might be worth scooting this thread over to our Glitches forum for advice -- they do wonders over there!

Hi, and I had the same problem with this part of the game and so did others. If I remember correctly the solution for us was to click fast and furyishly on the rope. Hope this helps, Regi

Jesse, let's see if this could be of help: click as fast as you can and several times (I would think on the rope) to see if you get lift up.

But I'm not sure about this. Please try and see. luck

Thanks, Re and Chief! wave

Jesse,
I found an old zipped folder of Nemesis saved games I downloaded ages ago.
I sent it to you. Hope one of them is the one you need.

When I played the game and had the same problem, I had to click furiously on the bell rope and, at the same time, hit one of the keys on the keyboard - I think it was the up arrow.
Worth a try.

Thank you everybody! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I got it to work. Couldn't have done it without all of your help.

I tried clicking furiously at first, then held down the up arrow while clicking, then finally clicking once on the rope and immediately hitting the up arrow. The last one did the trick. I tried a few more times to confirm; click on the rope and as fast as you can, hit the up arrow. Made it directly to the balcony. (I wonder if there are other shortcuts?)

MaG, I downloaded your saved files, thank you. I will keep them just in case.

I never had doubt that someone in the Gameboomers community wouldn't know the answer. I'm still a happy man.

Best regards, Jesse.
