Congratulations, dot! Well done! I recommend Lost Horizon next, if you're interested in that one. It's an excellent game and not too hard. smile

Dot I have not played Lost Horizon but I sure have heard good things about the game. You might want to take a look at Secret Files: Tunguska too.

Dot - here is how it goes sometimes... I just finished a game I didn't really like ( I hold on the name for now )but I just had to finish.

In another part of this Forum, Venus and Becky mentioned Perry Rhodan. I had seen it but held off getting it.

Well I got it yesterday and can't break away from it!!! Thank you Venus/Becky
- a great game !

Point being - now that you are hooked woozy keep a list handy, scan this forum, read reviews, you will want to play all the games on that list and the ones you hear and read about here. shocked

Pretty soon, you'll be recommending games to us thumbsup

Hey fellow Boomers, we got another one bravo

zookeeper,

I love the walkthroughs. I'm terrible with puzzles and can rarely work them out for myself. I would be lost without the WT.

gatsby that's how many were at the start of their game playing. We don't usually think in ways needed when playing such games.

Keep at it. Give yourself time and soon you'll be amazed what you'll solve for yourself.

I agree Homer! i Love it when i solve a complicated puzzle/riddle/clue yay

What I hate is when it was SO obvious !
*blsbet44 and The Kiddo (who was about 8 years old at the time)*
(blsb in a state of panic hardwall ) "I can't find the package! Isn't there suppose to be a package or something? I've been looking for 2 weeks "

(The 8 year old Kiddo smirk speaks to blsbet calmly) "Mommy... it's on the chair! Isn't that where you should put packages... on a chair?"

"What chair?

"The one in the hall. It's been there for weeks... (Kiddo looks at Mommy quizzically headscratch ) how come you didn't open it?"

"Thank YOU!!!! MWAH MWAH MWAH kissy kissy kissy

Sureshot, so glad you enjoyed Perry Rhodan!! One of the better recent games, I think, and it also has some of the prettiest graphics I've seen. thumbsup A sequel would be nice, but it doesn't look as though one is going to be made, unfortunately.

Why are you holding on to the name of the game you didn't like? Is it a popular game? smile

Hi Venus - No real reason - I didn't want to throw Dot my negativity on it - It was Overclocked.

I'm positive you played it.

I didn't care for all the repetition - the back and forth and most of all - clicking through a lot of dialog. The game bored the heck out me! sleep

Nice Clue in Name of the game by the way! woozy

Well back to Perry yay

Oh, okay. Yes, I played and enjoyed that one, but everyone has different tastes. smile I'm not sure that I would recommend it as a first game anyway, though, because it relies too much on selecting the right recording for the patients. I enjoyed it more for the story than the gameplay. smile

House of Tales's other game, Moment of Silence, may be better to start with, but then it has that frustrating satellite puzzle at the end.

Thanks! Any guesses? grin

Enjoy Perry! yay

That's probably the best thread i've seen here. You know why ?!?!? It just shows how amazing GB's community is. That's the best website dedicated to adventure games I've ever visited.

Thanks for being so nice guys smile

Homer6,

Thanks for the encouragement but the sad thing is that I have been playing adventure games for years but never get any better at the puzzles. I get frustrated with them very easily. I love it when games have a "skip" feature but most adventure games don't.

gatsby everyone runs into the frustration wall at some point. But it's part of playing these games. The secret is how to overcome that frustration.

When a puzzle frustrates you, stop, and think about what the puzzle is trying to do. Be it slide the part here or there, move the string so it doesn't cross another string, line up parts of figures, etc. THINK. ABOUT. IT. Think about what you'll looking at and what it requires to solve. As I said, we don't usually have to think in ways that help us solve these type puzzles in the real world and so we don't think that way.

If you're really about to go over the edge, stop, go do/play something else until your mind set is such you're ready to try again. A plus in doing this is that your mind will mull over the problem and you may be surprised by success the next time you play.

One thing I've learned over the years when playing these games, if I've had a really trying day it will be a trying time playing a game that requires game thinking. It's at these times I play something simple, well at least somewhat simple, something that doesn't require game type thinking.

If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

Homer6,

Thanks for the tips. I like the games where the puzzles make sense to me. For instance, I played a Sherlock Holmes game where he needed to get to an upstairs room but the staircase was blocked. I had collected boards and tried to make a ladder so that he could climb up. It worked. To me, that made sense. I hate the puzzles where all of a sudden I am faced with a combination lock or something else that needs to have something done. I often stare at them and wonder what I am supposed to do. To me, that isn't fun or relaxing but frustrating. I marvel at MaG and other who figure out the ridiculous hoops you have to go through to solve some puzzles. I really don't like the arbitrary puzzles that don't make sense to me.

I am probably alone in this but I love a good story and graphics. Puzzles are way down on my list of things that I am looking for in a good adventure game.

gatsbygirl,

I know what you mean about how frustrating it gets when you are stuck on a puzzle that the solution does not seem to make sense. I hate to use them but sometimes I just have to go to a walkthrough and lucky for me Gameboomers has a great walkthrough site.

No Dot, THANK YOU. you just don't know how much we love talking about our favorite games, our first game (my first was DOOM, not adventure but fun still). We love to see new people getting ready to go off into excitement. You were so tender and shy at first, but this will change as soon as you get Syberia under your belt!
