Hello,

I would love to hear opinions from "GameBoomers" on which voice they like better for the lead role in my newest game - Society of the Serpent Moon.

Voice 1

Voice 2

*The sample scene above probably wont many any sense since it just excerpts without the other actors voice. Voice 1 is actually me - but don't worry about hurting my feelings - I absolutely do not care - I just want to pick the best voice for the project. Theres a lot lines for the lead so its important that players enjoy the voice. If you dont like both - I would like to hear any comments or suggestions.

Thanks
Bill

I like voice 2, reason, it's much clearer then voice 1 and eaiser to hear.
Course, it also depends on the type of mood the game is trying to set. If it's spooky, then voice 1 otherwise voice 2 would be my choice if I were playing the game. Hope this helps? smile

Hi Bill,

Took me 2 tries to understand the dialogue in voice 1 but love the raspness and implied emotion.

The second one is clearer but after hearing the emotion of voice 1 - it seems flat.

Voice 1.

Voice 2 is good, clear, strong, but Voice 1 has an undertone of menace. It makes me feel as if the lead is not altogether a "good guy" or hero type in the usual sense, as if this guy has his own code of ethics but it might not be everyone else's. Which is good. It keeps you a little off-balance and gives the impression that the menace won't be all on the side of the skittering eyeballs which totally creep me out.

If that's what you really sound like, I would not like to be alone with you in a dark room. <g>

Gil.

I have to agree with MaG on the 'flat' sound to V2 compared to V1.

I didn't have any trouble understanding the dialogue with voice #1. I agree with the choice of #1 for the same reasons that MaG gave. The #1 voice seems to have a little bit of a Jack Nicholson quality going on, and for what is presumably a spooky game, I believe that's a good thing. grin

Definitely voice 1. The perfect horror game voice, great inflection and tone. I understood every word, no problems with the clarity.

I vote for Voice 1. I had a difficult time hearing him (loudness wise) but he sounded more compelling.

Voice 1 I heard menace, darkness, and a Mike Shane, type of voice.

Voice 2 I heard youth, and street type, anger without back up.

Knowing the type of great spooky games Billy does I vote for number 1.

Thanks for asking.

I vote for Voice 2. Voice 2 sounds clearer to me.

Thanks for letting me have a say, your games are great.

For a LHOD Game....voice #1 It's got that dark, creepy, razor blade for breakfast feel. Voice #2 reminds me of a street cop trying to wake up drunk in a back alley.

I LOVE all the LHOD Games!! Can't wait for the next one.

Voice #1 has my vote. It's gutsy, gritty, menacing tone comes across as "I mean business, don't mess with me".
Voice #2 is monochromatic, lacking intonation, a little boring.

I'll add another vote for voice #1. It is effectively hostile and creepy. And please hurry, I've just about worn out the other three games while waiting for this one.

Another Voice#1 vote.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

I'm so pleased that there is going to be another LHOD game & clicked on the links for each voice but they just seemed blocked so I just couldn't listen! cry My over-enthusiastic anti-virus system which now seems to make the decisions about what I can & cannot play & now listen to is heading for for the sack if it carries on like this! lol

chrissie, if your over-enthusiastic AV let you download the demo for the game, Voice 1 is the voice you hear in it. Just out of curiosity, though, have you got Apple Quicktime installed? If not, that may be the problem.

I like both. #1 sounds gritty and dark, and with better quality recording (a Shure SM58 works wonders!) will be fantastic. #2 is more of a fast-talking private eye voice. #1 seems the way to go for LHOD.

I agree with Amun. If the character is supposed to be spooky, evil and mean, I'd go for #1. But if you're looking for a noirish, Sam Spade kind of character, maybe someone with a dark past but a good guy, I'd go for #2.

Hi, bill

Ok voice 1 sounded like "Clint Eastwood" You have to really listen to hear him make your day lol

Voice 2 is clear ,and direct...You don't have to listen to hard to know what he is saying...

I personally like voice 2..

Thanks, for asking our opinion....You are the "Best" kissy

PS....I will be buying your game no matter what voice is used.... rah

I think I like voice 2 better although the raspiness of voice 1 is probably better for the type of game this will be, but I though IT sounded kind of flat.

Voice 2 but only by a fraction, Voice 1 is great and if the lines can be spoken JUST a Tad faster, then I would switch my vote to Voice 1.

Voice 1 please, Billy!

Deep voice usually means tall guy (something to do with the length of the vocal chords), which means more potential threat by dint of size. So deliciously sinister, too. Just a little more expression and you'll make the Oscars next year, Billy!
Seriously, I'm tickled pink that you are asking for an opinion in case your judgement is clouded by egotism - bless you, what a modest fellow smile
