I'm stuck on the roof trying to do the "lights" puzzle. Going back and forth between the two power stations

I tried on my own several times and got nowhere so I looked at the walkthrough but am still getting nowhere.
I just absolutely don't understand how to do it !!

I'd be most grateful if someone could please help - with instructions simple enough for a dunce

Here goes Mad:
Press the black button to cancel any previous fiddling. There are four stages. If you mentally number the lines on the switches 1-4 or 5 starting from the bottom.
Move Left switch to 2 lines from the bottom.
Middle switch to 2 lines from bottom
Right switch to 1 lines from the bottom
Press White button.
Left switch to 3 lines from the bottom.
Middle switch to 2 lines from the bottom.
Right switch to 4 lines from the bottom.
Press white button.
Left Switch to 2 lines from the bottom.
Middle Switch to 5 lines from the bottom.
Right switch to 3 lines from the bottom.
Press white button.
Left switch to 4 lines from the bottom.
Middle switch to 4 lines from the bottom.
Right switch to 2 lines from the bottom
Press white button.

Mad, the important thing to remember is that the black button resets all previous knob-twiddling -- so press that if you've made a mistake anywhere at all along the line, and then start over from the beginning again, otherwise you'll have more lights than you need appear on the other power station box.

Hi!

I'm not sure if I have stumbled upon a glitch or just doing something wrong (most likely :-))

I can't get the elevator working again. Before I went up the stairs to the balcony and opened the locked door in the middle it was working just fine and now when I push the button nothing happens.

I have tried having the switch behind the elevator both left and right, and all the other switches are to the right.

Please help.

You don't push button anymore. Just click on elevator door. Have fun.
