Did you get the dialogue with Jack about the key?
If not -- be sure to left/right click on all the doors, upstairs and downstairs. There are two upstairs doors and two downstairs, if I remember correctly. Then Jack will talk about the key.
I'm not sure how many slots there are. Just move your cursor very slowly along the bottom so that you don't miss any.

Hi topcat,
I'm not familiar with the BigFish version. Have you enabled your Hidden Files & Folders? That might help.
You might also need to post directly on the BigFish forums for a saved game. There are three different formats for this game: US disk, European disk, and BigFish download, and saves for one are not compatible with any of the others (we've found). MaG and I have saves for the US disk version.
