I am trying to play this game and a bit frustrated with the movement. I am at the green door where I have a rope and hook connected. But I can't seem to get it to do anything on the torn screen above the door. Help, please.

Hi charward,

Have you clicked on the door so that you know it's locked and inaccessible?

Try switching to first person view (if you're not in it already) -- that might make it easier to find the hotspot.

I have clicked on the door and heard Holmes comments. Will try the first person thing.

According to the manual I am in first person mode. Still can't get rope and hook to a hotspot. I had another problem at the table in the bar. I looked at the drawings and heard the comment but nothing shows up in documents. Maybe a save after the green door thing?

Are you playing the original game version (first person viewpoint only), or the Remastered (first or third person option)? Saves for one are not compatible with the other.

If you have the original:
Original Awakened

Otherwise, there's a save halfway down this page which is at the point you need, but I'm not sure if it's Remastered or not:
Awakened saves
You have to sign up to be able to download saves here, but sign up is free and only takes a minute.

If you still have problems, let us know.

I have two problems with this game. I am at the place after smoking the kitchen. According to the walkthrough I should be able to use the map to move around. But the map has never been available to me. Is there a patch that fixes this?
also when I downgrade the saves, WinZip gives and error message and won't unzip the files.
I have the original version.

Right click to see the portfolio.
Inside the portfolio is the map.
You can "jump to" after visiting that specific place later in the game.

Try using the Windows extractor.
Right click the zipped-compressed folder and then select "extract" from the drop down menu.

I cannot use the map in this game. I know where it is and have tried to use it. I end up having to go all the way back and forth. I am not familiar with the Windows extractor.

It is part of your OS, so see if your follow what I stated above works: Right click the zipped-compressed folder and then select "extract" from the drop down menu.

Also try using the Frogwares support - HERE.

Hi all,

Allow me to add (I've been in touch with charward2 by email) that, as far as I remember, the number of the save files must be continuous.
You can't have save_28.jpg then save_53.jpg with nothing inbetween.
If you want to access save_53.jpg in the load menu of the game, you have to rename it save_29.jpg to fill the gap after save_28.jpg.

Always a nice board to read btw, even if I don't participate that much.

I have renumbered two or three files. They show up when I look at the files in the save folder. But in the game they are not there. I have had help from Frogwares but I still can't get the saves to show up when I open the game.

The saved games I sent to you are from the original game. If you need the remastered - tell me.

Double check that you have kept the extensions of the saved game files when renumbering. Take care of spaces also.

I have the original game. I think I have kept the extensions. All I change is the number.

Now scroll to the beginning of the load pages. They are shown by dates. So it might be the first one. luck

That shows the saves I have extracted. But they do not show up in the game when I try to load. Even when I am playing if I save it overwrites the last save even though there are blank spaces that I have clicked on. I did go back and managed to play through the Dr. Gygax office and back upstairs without a save. Now I need to flip a lever on the right wall to open the gate. But there is no lever on the right wall and I was never able to click on the truss on the floor. The first gate at the top of the stairs is open but the second one is closed. And there doesn't appear to be anyway I can open it. That's why I was trying to get the classroom save to work. No luck

Just to verify - the place you are looking on for the lever to open the gate is by Becker's cell.

Face Becker's cell - turn left - go forward.
See a gate on the left and the 2 levers in front of you.

Not those, I have already done those. But I have struggled along and finally found it at the top of the winding stairs. I have finished Black Edelweiss without the saves. So now I am in New Orleans. I hope it won't always be dark here.
Thanks anyway. I think there is a problem with my game because each save I do overwrites the last one. So I have no saves to send anyone. I did get about 10 before this started.

Yes - let's hope that you have no more problems: saves or brightness.
