Have just started this game and have been unable to save. Can someone please talk me through the procedure. Because of the screen resolution I am unable to see all the options on screen when I try to do so. cheers, Alfoil.

Hi Alfoil,

First, try re-setting your screen resolution to 640x480 display, 16 bit, so that you can see all of the screen.

Then, from Jenny100's review:

There are keyboard hotkeys for Open menu, Close menu, Save, Load, and Quit. But most of the game is controlled by the mouse. The menu appears during the game as a toolbar at the top of the screen, similar to the toolbar that appeared in the original Myst game. You can load, save, etc. through the toolbar as well as by using the hotkeys.

Shout if you still need help. luck

I have set the screen as low as I can but am still having problems. When it goes to a bigger picture I have no way of saving files, when I try to because the resolution makes the frame too big and you can't click on save. The lowest screen size I have is 860. Can you please tell me what the hot keys are as none of the ones I have tried do anything. I really need to sort this out because I have all 4 rhem games. cheers, alfoil

Open Menu: CTRL + M / Spacebar
Close Menu: CTRL + W
Save Game: CTRL + S
Load Game: CTRL + O
Quit Game: CTRL + Q

860 is not a resolution.
You need both a height and a width for a resolution. Look for a resolution that's in a 4:3 ratio, like 800x600 or 640x480. Most resolution settings will go down to 640x480 if you choose "List All Modes."
"Control Panel"->"Display Properties"->"Advanced"->"Adapter"->"List All Modes"

Have done as you suggested, oh dear, when I changed the resolution it became so big that I couldn't do anything with it. When I went to change back to the normal resolution my computer runs with I couldn't even do that because the ok button was off the wall somewhere where i couldn't get to it. I had to re boot to get it back to where a computer message came up saying that the resolution was so small would I like it to change it back to the normal settings it uses. So that's what I did. Now what do I do, I am going to scream if I have bought the four games and can't use them. Do you have anymore suggestions. All your help is much appreciated. cheers, Alfoil.

Right-click the game exe => Properties => Compatibility tab.
Is there a checkbox there for 640x480?

Jenny you are a wonder. It worked perfectly when I went through the exe file. I am a bit puzzled, when I changed the actual monitor setting to 640x480through the control panel it came up so big I couldn't save etc. I am delighted. Thank you so much, cheers, Alfoil.

Glad to hear you're able to play it now.
Windows XP and later aren't really made to be used with the desktop set to 640x480. They assume everyone will have their monitor set to a higher resolution, so the windows and boxes tend to go offscreen when the desktop is set to 640x480. If you memorize what gets highlighted when you use the tab button, you can maneuver and change settings with the tab button and the Enter key. But you have to memorize how to do it when set to a higher resolution where you can see what you're doing (e.g. -- click the Tab key 5 times and then the Enter key for OK).
