Hi boomers,

I just bought Traitors Gate on CD-ROM, and I'm having a little difficulty with it. It seems to need three versions of quicktime, 2.0, 2.12, and 3.02. It includes 2.1.2 and 3.02, but 2.0 is not included and I cannot find it anywhere.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh thanks! Unforutunatly that's not 2.0...when I download it it claims to be, but on install it's 2.1.2.

I've never seen a game that required different versions of QuickTime to be installed - are you sure it isn't stating that any of those versions is a requirement.

Are you getting any specific errors when you play the game?

As far as I know, it only required versions 2.1.2 and 3.0.2.

You may have a problem if the game is using a 16-bit version of QuickTime 2.1.2 and you have a 64-bit version of Windows.

It seems to want the exact 2.0.0 version.

What happens is this: I start the traitors gate setup, it begins, then tells me: "The following sofware is required but was not found on your computer: Quicktime 2.0. Setup may not function properly."

I tried going ahead anyway, and it installs 2.12 and 3.02 fine, but trying to run the game afterwords just shows a black screen then exits.
And the 2.12 I have is 32bit, same as my windows version(xp SP3 32bit).
I've tried the usual kinds of configuration shuffling

I'm not sure if it will help, but have you set the QuickTime exe's (both 2.1.2 and 3.0.2) as well as the game exe to run using compatibility mode set to Windows 98 (or possibly to Windows 2000 since Traitors Gate apparently worked in Windows 2000 according to ***ntcompatible***). Also run the game as an Administrator (right-click the game exe and choose to run as Administrator -- or from an account with Administrator privileges if you're using XP).

Another thing you might try -- see if installing the game into your My Documents folder (or at least somewhere other than the C:\Program Files folder) does any good. I'm not sure if the QuickTime install gives options for install location, but you could check to see if you could install them someplace other than the Program Files folder too.

According to the thread below, there was a patch released (although I've not seen what it addresses).

Thanks, guys. Unfourtantly nothing seems to be working, but it's all right and I appreachiate the help--the game was a pretty "bottom of the bin" deal, and I'll just be looking out for a better(and less troublesome) game.
