No problems here, Gail. It's good that you contacted Customer Support.

Marian, Yes, I failed to mention that as one of the fixes. And my issues did just start since the new GM. I beta tested the new GM and did not recommend it on my survey.
Honestly? I think the "rolled back" version of the GM they gave me is in looks only. I do not think it is the original GM I have been using.

I have been buying games from BF for 5 years and I must admit, they do try to go to the ends of the earth to fix the problems and I have gotten free replacements. Once they gave me two free games hahaha they must have really felt bad. Hope they feel bad that I spent hours and hours trying to resolve my issue. One of the things they had me do was to take screen shots of the entire process I went through to download a game... they said 4 or 5 would be good............ hahaha do you have any idea how long this took me to accomplish? Good thing I have a good sense of humor

Gail, I am now reading on the forums of a sizeable number of people who are having this problem. It's possibly a Big Fish/file server issue. Not sure when this will be fixed due to it being the weekend, but I will keep you posted if I find any new info.

Hmmm maybe that explains today's issues with me. If I play a BF game and close it and go to another BF game it says I have another game running ( BTW, I can play for as long as I want, no crashing), but my task manager disagrees that there is another game running. the only thing i found that works is to restart my puter. That is not acceptable.... I feel my good sense of humor fading hahaha

Sorry about all the troubles, Marcie.

I actually just finished contacting a mod on the Big Fish forums and they have informed me that they are now looking into the problem of all games crashing (like Gail described above, and which just started in the last several hours). I don't know if your problems could be attributed to this latest issue or not, though.

Marian, thank you so much for your input to BF and your feedback to us. The more they hear the more seriously they will take these issues. This has been going on for weeks and I know along with myself and the other members that are affected the feeling of frustration is reaching a peak. ie, ready to just be satisfied with the games I have and not deal with them until some kind of resolution has been made.

Marcie, have you ask Big Fish if they will get someone to do there 'Copilot' it is a scheme where they take over your computer and see what the problem is, they were going to do it with me, but I reformatted mine and that solved the problem, am not suggesting a reformat for you,
good luck

You are most welcome, Marcie. I wish I could do more. flowers

If you haven't explored having the Big Fish technicians remotely (Copilot) take an in-depth look at the problems that you are having, I would definitely recommend (as widget mentioned) that you do so. More details as to how to go about this are available at the top of the Casual Games forum, in the first (stickied) thread about the Big Fish Games Manager. wave

Widget & Marian, thanks for the reminder about the Copilot. I did read about that in their forum and sent a PM, that's when I got the old GM offer, which didn't help. First they wanted me to go through all the email help first. I'll write back and ask them now that I completed that do I qualify for the Copilot.... thanks again soooo much for mentioning that.

Some of my games have been crashing. I just figured it was my computer, but now I see others are having the same problem. I don't lose my progress, but it's a pain when I'm hot on the trail of whichever baddy needs a whuppin'.

I rolled back to the old game manager and I haven't had any problem with games crashing. It may or may not be a factor but I thought it worth mentioning.

The recent incident of all games crashing is now being attributed to those with McAfee antivirus and a recent update to McAfee. Big Fish is working with McAfee to resolve the problem.

I saw one person on the Big Fish forums who said she completely uninstalled McAfee and installed a different antivirus and now none of her games have the crash problem.

Thanks Marian, Yes that's what the problem is. Hard to believe what a security update can manage to mess up. Sure hope there's a resolution soon. scared

there was a HUGE problem with McAfee several months ago. Members, including me were having to reinstall every game because something in McAfee's new upgrade was isolating a small file as some kind of trojan or unwanted file. Messed everythig up. A lot of us long timers got rid of McAfee then. I seem to remember getting a lot of free games from BF as an apology. Oh, and.... BF members swarmed McAfee's bulletin board with tons of negative comments........... what can I say, it worked
(edit)
Just looked up the saved information and it took place in December 2008 if anyone wants to do a search for the message boards

Speaking as someone who is no longer a member of BFG, I can't believe the run of bad luck they've been having, some of it self-inflicted. They finally decide to roll back the Game Manager (after six weeks) and then run into a problem with McAfee. I have nothing but sympathy for the tech and customer support folks in the company and nothing but sincere best wishes for everyone who has chosen to remain loyal. More than I could do.

Although any one of them can cause an issue, the ongoing problems with McAfee caused me to dump them almost 8 years ago. I've been lucky and haven't had a scrap of problem with any of my Windows 7 computers.

A friend was working with BFG as sort of a "guinea pig" and finally gave up on getting the new GM to work on her XP machine. I suggested she try on her Windows 7 laptop, and it works perfectly there. The stopping of support for XP in 2014 notwithstanding, BFG has to know there are still huge numbers of people out there with XP and it will continue to be like that for a long time. I don't think that was the only issue though.

Wondered why my download games from BF were closing on me. Went to BF and saw there was a problem between BF and McAffie and that they are working on the problem. Hope they get it fixed soon.

I still have Windows XP and have never had so much as a speck of trouble with any version of the Big Fish Game Manager.

Bets, hopefully it won't be too much longer before Big Fish and McAfee together can come up with a fix for this problem.

I never used to have any problem with Big Fish games using XP SP1 -- until Big Fish came up with a Game Manager that didn't support XP SP1. Ever since using XP SP3 I've had intermittent problems with games refusing to run or refusing to activate. Games that ran without any tweaks under XP SP1 have to use compatibility mode to run under XP SP3. And games that repeatedly refuse to activate may activate without a problem a few hours later. This also happened with the previous Game Manager after it stopped supporting XP SP1. It never happened with XP SP1.

I was one who realized that the McAfee update was the culprit in the BFG woes this weekend. I had Microsoft Security Essentials and Webroot Spysweeper installed on my laptop as well. They have coexisted with McAfee for better than two years. McAfee Tech support wanted me to uninstall both and said the "incompatibility" was responsible for my issues. I strongly begged to differ and just uninstalled McAfee in favor of MSE and Webroot. Those two programs have warded off realtime threats to my computer while McAfee just sat on the sidelines. I chose to uninstall McAfee and the issue with the games was immediately resolved.

As of today, apparently McAfee has updated and the problems have been resolved. I have not decided as yet if I'm going to bother reinstalling it.

That is amazining Homer6! I've downloaded and reinstalled McAfee. My BFG's are working but IE8 is really slow to open any sites which I also noted over the weekend. Since MSE appears to be better for detecting realtime threats, I've decided to disable realtime scanning via McAfee. Guess what? IE8 is now responding more quickly. So I'll keep McAfee installed for now, use the Firewall...and see how it goes.

What's amazing is that you lasted so long with two antivirus actively scanning. If he'd been using anything other than Microsoft Security Essentials along with McAfee you'd probably have ground to a halt. You should never have two antivirus doing real time scanning at once. It's not necessary and slows things down too much.

I switched over from McAfee to Microsoft Essentials and I have no problems now. I switched over before McAfee fixed the problem. I'm gonna stay with Essentials.
