Did I see something about someone being able to load Shivers 1 on Win 7? If so, please tell me how to do it.

I think you're looking for the installers on the page below -

Shivers 1 will not play on 64-bit Windows 7 and there is no installer for it. I was able to play Shivers 2 on 64-bit Windows 7 by using the installer from Squirtthecat.

The Windows 7 and Games thread might have more details.

I've replayed the game successfully under Windows 7, but I've always used Virtual PC or DOSBox running Windows 3.1 to do it.

If you can locate a set of install discs for Windows 3.1 it's a really great way to play the old games.

Yup! That's the only way to do in in 64-bit Windows 7. It played just fine in my 32 bit Windows 7 when I was using the Release Candidate. I always wonder why they don't develop an installer for Shivers 1 like they did for Shivers 2. I'm sure there's a good reason...

Maybe Shivers has got too much 16-bit code in it, while Shivers 2 is a 100% 32-bit game.

In any case, both games work fine in Virtual PC, as do Amber and many other old Windows games from the '90's that have problems in 64-bit Windows.

Hi smile12

Are the installers on the link "New Installers for Sierra Games" given by InlandAZ now the best for getting my old games to run in WinXP ??

[I was wondering how "new" they are.]

Cheers.

I think they are as new as they get! Which means some have been around for awhile. But then remember that XP has been around for over 10 years too.
