In chapter 4 after I leave the railing where the guy was buried in the water and I go back to the castle I get an "out of memory" error. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks, Louis.

Is this the version of the game from GOG or an old CD version of the game? The original CD version had a patch that you can download from here
http://www.gamefront.com/files/901869/gk2pat11.zip

According to the Readme for the patch, one of the things it does is to Correct the "Out of Memory" message at Schloss Ritter in Chapter 4.

This is the list of everything it fixes:
Quote:
1. Corrects "Out of memory" message at Schloss Ritter in Chapter 4.
2. Corrects "Error 99: Error Loading Resource 122v56" that occurs when switching to CD #2.
3. Fixes "dead end" that occurs when player exhausts dialogue with Leber before visiting Ubergrau's office for the first time and then can't get back to Leber to ask about "Black Wolf".
4. Fixes problem where Neuschwanstein border does not stop blinking even after player has heard every tour tape.
5. Fixes problem where Georg does not have "Lost Opera" topic if player hasn't clicked on "Letter to Conductor" in the Museum but has exhausted topics with Frau Miller, then cannot get back to the Museum.
6. Allows Grace to get holy water only once.
7. Corrects "thrashing" or continuous hard drive or CD drive reads.

Thanks, Jenny100. I'll try it. I don't which version I have. It's a jewel case with 6 cd's from Sierra 1995. I'll ket you know if the patch works. Thanks, Louis.

That sounds like the original version, which would need the patch. The game was first published in 1995.

The patch worked for about 5 minutes farther and then the "out of memory" error message came back up. When I initally downloaded the patch a window opened with a bunch of folders in it. Was I supposed to do something with that? I just closed it and started the game again. Thanks, Louis.

The readme that came with the patch had these instructions:
Quote:
To install the patch:
Copy the patch files into the game directory on your hard drive.
(C:\SIERRA\GK2DOS for the DOS version or C:\SIERRA\GK2WIN for the
Windows version.) When asked, overwrite any existing files. After
the files are copied, play the game normally.

If you didn't extract the files to the game folder after downloading, you didn't install the patch. I think the "window with the bunch of files in it" that you saw was Windows asking where you wanted to extract the files to.
