Another big earthquake just hit. This one I felt for sure. Everything swinging and 2 big jolts with rocking motion in between. It's listing as 5.4 for that same area the first one struck which was a 5.3 so the aftershock is bigger than the original and still in the same 2-4 mile area around my old stomping grounds.
And I thought today was going to be a slow day in Sorta's Neighborhood.

Yankee, I think sail boats are graceful too, but of course, I've never been on one.
Sorta, stay safe!
Haroula, sleep well.
We are watching the hurricane news. No one seems sure of what Ivan will do. It's not a hurricane yet. The weathermen are expecting impact her on Tues/Wed. A lot could change in that time. I expect Connie will get it a day before we do.

Everything is OK around here. So far no reports of any damages or injuries where the epicenter is. Hundreds now of small quakes in the same area. It's all desert and not many big buildings anywhere. Waiting for our local news at 6 my time for a real report from the scene. There was a similar incident when I lived there in 1975 January. One big shaker and so many little ones over the next few weeks it was feeling 'normal'. Just wonder if this is a precursor to the 'big one' since the San Andreas is the huge North to South fault that goes through all of California. I might soon have ocean front property.

It has been a busy afternoon and evening here. I walked the dogs almost three miles in the rain. They had a great time because the wildlife was out and about today. They love to chase anything that moves. When I got back I went to the store to do some major grocery shopping and aftwer I put that away hubby and I went to Costco for some more. That led me straight to cooking dinner and now I am in laundry land. L4L, do you think the hurricane will affect you? Sorta, hubby and I were wondering how they differentiate between foreshocks, an earthquake and aftershocks. Do they just figure that out if no more happen? be back

Good question Ana. Heck if I know. All they tell us is that the 'big' one is the actual earthquake, and everything after that on the same 'spot' is aftershocks. As for the Brawley quakes today, they are up to over 200 now and there is some structural damage. Not San Andreas fault though. It's the Brawley fault that I experienced in 1975. They even mentioned that series on the news. Brawley is on an area that has volcanic activity under the crust. Lots of geothermal wells that provide electricity for the town. Cheap electric. Scary that the earthquakes are involving that unstable volcanic area. Ugh.

But how would you know if the 200 that have been felt until now aren't just tremors before a big one. We really are at the mercy of Mother Nature, aren't we? Ana

Night all. This old body is really out of energy. My clients have their Family visiting before Mike's surgery on Tuesday. I'll be working more hours for about 3 weeks. Night all. Midgie
Just do it.

Yup Ana, so many quakes of like 2. or 3. something are hitting all the time. There were about 2 or 3 small quakes just before the 5.7 hit. Guess the geologists figure it all out. Our San Diego local expert says we are due for a 7.8 quake sometime in the next 30 years. Quakes fascinate me but if you are near the center, they can cause massive damages. Worst part in Brawley so far is the power is out. It's 110 degrees out there and when you don't have air conditioning, it's unbearable!

Evening; a slow weekend but did get a bit of yard work done and put away my yard art.
Sorta, prayers for safety.
Shyty, good to see your posts again.
Will be taking the pc in tomorrow so can only wait and see how long it takes, especially if he has to order the part.
Wishing all a great start to the week.
