How do I find a Download in order to install it? I have been Downloading Peter's Puzzles for years with no problems. I do it in the batches from my existing puzzles. Have done it from this PC already, but this time there was no option to install it.

The program did make a folder for it, but it is empty. I have gone thru many of the ways (a couple hours) the PC tells me to look for it, and get nothing. HELP ! ! ! !

I take it you searched for the file by going to Start and placing the name in the white box for Searching for programs and files? Also, if you go to Start, look for any highlighted folders or programs which indicate a new folder or program.

Did you look in the Downloads folder: Start > Computer and at the upper left you'll see Downloads.

You've looked in the main folder where the puzzles reside? Perhaps under Programs, and folder name?

You say you've tried every way the computer advised, so could it be the puzzle didn't download correctly? If you can, it might not be a bad idea to re-download it. If it's possible to say where to store the puzzle make that choice so you'll remember where it is. If you don't have that option, if you're shown where it will be stored, note that location before starting the download.

If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

granny,

Someone (and I do thank them for it) recommended a free program called Search Everything . I downloaded it and it really does work. Once it loads, it shows everything on your computer and you just type in the name of what you're looking for to get every place it might be hiding.

If nothing else anyone suggests works, go get it! smile

Gil.

granny, it's all a function of where you have set your browser to download to. I have told my Firefox to download to a secondary hard drive in a specific folder.

Search Everything is also an excellent suggestion. However, if you are looking for a Peter's Puzzle, you will need to know what name he gave it because it won't be listed as anything "Peter." They are listed by a number.

Have you tried going into your browser and looking in the Downloads to see where it says it went? Or to at least get the number name he gave it?

It is MULAWA DREAMING you are downloading from.

It's the numbers I am downloading, you do it in groups of 55 to 60 puzzles from your own list.

I have done all the things mentions above except

(it's all a function of where you have set your browser to download to. I have told my Firefox to download to a secondary hard drive in a specific folder)

I have never set my browser anywhere, just go to MULAWA DREAMING, down load it (about 20 Min. for each bunch.) Puter downloads, then gives me the choice to Install, or Delete. Install, or Delete is the missing part. I am supposing that's why the folder is empty, The folder will not let me give it a name because there has not been an install.

Frankly, I don't even know is there IS another secondary hard drive, or if I have Firefox, and how to use it if it's in there.

I did run the download a second time. at the end, it ask if I wanted to se it, I did, and got puzzles from PREVIOUS downloads that I have finished and deleted. ????

Traveler, I'll try ( Search Everything) altho I have done all the Searching everywhere that can be found on the blasted PC. There is certainly a huge hoard of unknown suggestions to wade through.

Thanks guys or girls for your help. I WILL try to give your answers another go-round.

When you downloaded from Mulawa Dreaming, you used your default browser - probably Internet Explorer. I was just giving an example of where I send my downloads - it's something that I set up in my Firefox browser. You won't have it - I was just using an example.

Assuming you are using IE, just open it up, click on Tools and then on View Downloads. It will show all your downloads.

Like Draclvr said, if you never changed your download location, your downloads will go to your Download folder.

It sounds like in the past you simply ran the installer immediately after downloading and never deleted the install files, which were saved in your Downloads folder. The puzzles you deleted were probably deleted from the Peter's program, but that doesn't automatically delete the installers you downloaded.

If you're not seeing any new installer files in the Downloads folder, maybe there's an issue on Peter's website. Maybe the link for the new puzzle is wrong or maybe the new puzzle was accidentally given the same name as one of the older ones. Maybe you should email Peter about your problem. He might know what is going on.

Granny,

If it will help any, I'll tell you what I do for future reference. I made a folder in My Documents named Games. When I download a game, I don't let it save where it wants to, I browse to My Documents/Games to save it. Then I delete the game installer from my browser's Downloads.

The only exception to that is GOG which makes its own GOG Downloads folder but that folder is created in My Documents by default so it's still easy to find any of GOG's games.

You could just as easily make a Games folder on your Desktop.

Gil.

How do I make a Game Folder on my Desktop?

I was "Out of Service' this Spring and Summer for almost 3 months, had a minor heart problem, and have forgoten how to do almost everything. And this PC 7 is like a jungle to me.

Granny,

Right click on your desktop. From the menu that comes up, select New, then out to the right, select Folder. There you are, you have a new folder on the desktop. Just right click on it and rename it Games.

When you download a game, you'll have the option to Run or Save it. Select Save. A window will open to your computer. On the left side of the window, you'll see your folders. Desktop should have a folder under it that says Games. Double click on that and hit Save to download the game to that folder.

Probably more info than you need but I hope it's clear!

Gil.

Gil, I did manage to get the folder, and named it Games. BUT ??? When I got to Mulawa Dreaming, and clicked the batch from the list (1025 to 1088)
I wanted, it worked the right way as usual and loaded them all to the Peter's Puzzle program I already have. So I will keep the Games folder for other games. Maybe the PC was getting me messed up because I don't like it.

At least, I have learned something new. Thanks so much.

Peter's Puzzles have a mind of their own, eh? laugh Well, as long as you know where they are and they work, that's all that matters.

I think you'll like Win 7 when you get used to it. I think it's better than XP myself and I'm usually a real stick in the mud about change.

Have fun with 1025 to 1088!

Gil.
