RHEM

Graphic Adventure by Knut Muller and independent game designer

It got me by the throat
The bridge, the stairs the moat
I swear, I say [blip]
I am playing Rhem

I go along the wall
Get lost in the hall
Go down the ladder
It never gets better

I turn the round house
I scuttle like a mouse
Give juice to the lift
I even gap the water rift

Adjust the pump
And drain the sump
Push and pull every lever
Find part of the letter

Than I am back again at the moat
Rhem got me by the throat
I swear and say [blip]
I am playing Rhem

Damned if I how how I got on that train but before I was fully conscious I was riding on that narrow track thingy through tunnels and rocky valleys with water and some interesting but unrecognizable poles every where.

Finally the car stopped at a wire enclosure and I feeling lost and unsure got off and started to walk. Please take a note of this word WALK, it is an interesting word, it starts with a W and is followed by and A there is nothing exciting or foreboding in this, the L is just as benign and than there is the harsh sound of K. Yes the K should have warned you because for now on you walk. You learn that you are suppose to find four hidden pieces of a letter and if you do you will be helped out of this place. Why is it that these people never heard of e-mail?

You are in a place enclosed by high rocky walls, complicated walkways are winding their ways around mysterious buildings, there are stands and plaques, ladders and wheels.

Than a guy pops out on one of the terraces and says that he has been wondering around her for month. he is sorry, he is fed up and he is steeling your car and you are on your own. Talk about nasty!

So you go on and get to a round tower. Yes there are round towers, some are stationery, some are 4 ways and some even turn.

You will be called upon to equalize water levels, lower and raise platforms, supply electricity to elevators, turn bridges around and solve puzzles of symbols and numbers. At first you are wondering what you are doing and how are you ever going to find your way. If you pay attention the map of the place slowly unfolds in your head and you start enjoying the ingenuity of the complicated mind that created this place.

This game was hailed as Riven like. It is true that you cannot die, nobody is breathing down on your neck, monsters will not jump at you from the rocks. The similarity ends right there. It is just you and you mind, and you better pay attention or get lost and tangled up. I did just that, I made out all right with the switches and pumps, the twists and the turnings and just about lost my marbles at one of the easier puzzles at the radar field. Of course I got help from the GameBoomers and a few other people who are still laughing about how silly I really got over the whole thing.

This is not a game for the inattentive or the faint hearted. If you like pretty pictures and easy puzzles you should look elsewhere. I you impatient or easily annoyed you must go and play one of the easier parlor games, on the other hand if you like a healthy challenge start playing Rhem. It is a satisfying game, when you do something right you can feel a well deserved glow, you figured it out.

So walk into Rhem my sister/brother, take your lumps as they come and think your way out of the rocky maze. It is definitely worth the trouble.

The graphics are good and appropriate for the game, there is no music but there are sounds and you better listen to them, they are important.

The game played smoothly with and exception of one bug at the blue panel in the radar house (See walkthrough for correction).

Thank you Knut Muller keep them coming.. thumbsup

I'm about 2/3 of the way through Rhem, and have been playing Cameron Files II along with it. As much as I enjoyed the trip up the Nile, with our friend Cameron, I'm finding Rhem to be a much more intriguing game. It's a lot tougher, even with a walk-through, but I find myself thinking about it even when I'm not playing it.

BTW, I have nothing but awe for anyone who can get through this game without a WT. MagTRo, how did you do it!!!??? eek wave <img border="0" alt="[kiss]" title="" src="graemlins/kiss.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[kiss]" title="" src="graemlins/kiss.gif" />
