I was wondering about if its a good idea to shut down your computer at night?
Do any of you recommend this.....Is it a good thing to do?
Thanks...

There are many opinions on this. I put mine to sleep every night to shut off the fans sucking in dust and cat hair; on Sunday night I do a complete shut-down to clear out the virtual memory.

I shut mine down every time I use it and that is several times a day. I've never had a problem and my oldest computer purchased in 2003 still runs perfectly so it doesn't seem to do any harm.

I always shut down all my machines after use and have done so since 1992 - and none of them have ever suffered any ill effects. It helps with the ecology of our planet, saves on my electric bills and lessens any fire hazards in the home

On one of my old computers from about 2003, I had the power button on the case wear out and break from constantly pressing it to turn it on! I had to rebuild the computer inside a new case. I certainly would hope that things like the power button in new computer cases are a bit more sturdy than that one!

So I was wondering if I put it to sleep or hibernate would be better?

Like I said above, I use sleep during the week and do a complete shut-down on Sunday night and power up on Monday morning. A compromise, I guess.

My power button broke about 5 years ago... I opened the case played with it.. popped the plastic together and gently replaced it. Shhhhh.... it's still working :-)

Our computer stays off unless someone is using it or going to use it. Doing it this way cuts down on the electric bill. By the way, if you watch television do you leave the set on all night?

Well slap myself up side the head, how could I forget some people do indeed leave the TV on all night, because they need some noise. Ah well, that just goes to show that group of brain cells is on the fritz.

Some posted an article on Facebook this morning that says the reason our brains slow down as we age is because we've got so much information in them. Finally! An explanation!

If we got so much information in our brains, how come we can't find things when we need it? Maybe the majority of stuff is plain garbage?
