I just installed the new Tex Murphy game on my PC running Windows 8, and when I run I get a green screen with audio but no video, It does eventually show the menu correctly, but response to the buttons to start the game, or to select Options is sluggish, takes several attempts before the game reacts. I was able to start the game and I hear the opening dialog , but no video, just a green squiggly screen.
I tried changing to Windows 7 compatibility mode, but that way I get no video at all. (just audio)

Any ideas?

Thanks
Louis

You should also take a look at this. Scroll down to the first post by Tex Murphy and then click on where it says troubleshooting for no video/green screen video issue.

Darn, Nothing I've tried , including checking the nvida driver (I have the latest one for my version of nvidia), settings, etc seem to work. I tried downloading the recommended direct x 9.0c, but it says it's not compatible with windows 8! All I managed to accompish is downloading a bunch of bloatwere in my attempt to fix this! So, looks like I wasted my $$$ and worse of all , don't get to play the latest Tex Murphy after years of waiting :(
There are times like this I HATE WINDOWS! No 2 darn machines are the same! Not sure where I go from here... hate to give up, but I hate messing with operating systems, settings, graphics, etc just to play a game. The darn thing ought to work out of the box, PERIOD! Ok, rant over.. for now

One thing you never answered... what is your video card? I know of a couple of other people who have played the game on Windows 8.1 and had no problems, so I don't think the OS is the problem.

This is a very demanding game. I also have trouble running the game awful slow sometimes.I know it's my computer. The game requires 4GB of Ram and I have only 3GB. Richard

This is the direct x 9 link that works on windows 8 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21372568/directx_Jun2010_redist.exe I couldn't find a direct link so you can download from my drop box. make a new folder in documents folder called direct x so they will install into this folder. once extracted open the folder & click on setup.exe file. now if direct x was your only problem there will be no green screen. if you have on board video as well as nvidia card, setup the tesla effect.exe file under the nvidia contol panel (you will find this under manage 3d) any other problems let me know

Here's a link to a site discussing a few possible fixes.http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=257460837 If you have an onboard video card as well as a gaming video card, check #5. It has a picture of the interface you need to use to make the game use the right card. Apparently the game will choose the unsuitable onboard card unless you tell it to use your real card.

Thanks for all the help and advise, but so far nothing has worked. I tried that direct x you sent me, Plumgas but nope , that didn't fix it either. On top of that some site I tried to get the direct x driver from apparently installed some kind of virus that hijacks my browser with all kinds of pop-ups and bogus warning messages. The settings suggested to Nvidia don't exist on my system, so I cant make that change.
The video card is an nvidia GeForce 6150SE n force 430. Computer has an AMD 64 x2 dual core processor, 3 GB Ram, 32bit operating system. 64x based processor.

Guess i might just have to give up on this, at least on this computer.

And I believe therein lies your problem. I have a 6150n force 430 on a low end build I did and it's not good for much beyond casual games, very low demand adventure games and videos. This is probably a motherboard integrated card which shares memory with your system. You only have 3 GB of memory to begin with and the game requires a minimum of 4 GB. Inland or Jenny might have more info about that video chip, but I don't think this computer meets the minimum requirements for the game.

But you have the information I didn't have time to dig up! I know on the low-end build I did to house my XP drive, it's definitely not going to run a high demand new adventure game.

I think part of the video card confusion comes from the card makers naming of their cards. For instance on GOG, I don't recall the exact wording, but it says Nvidia 200 series or above. Nolalou stated the card in question is a GeForce 6150SE n force 430. That 430 could lead one to believe it is a 400 series card. Which could also lead one to believe a 400 series is "above" a 200 series. That is not necessarily so. I have a 200 series card in the middle of the line. Without looking I don't recall if it is a 240 or 260. It is ample for this game. Very often it is difficult to determine specs on these cards. I have a 400 watt power supply and not a single 200 series card listed on New Egg, at the time I purchased it, stated the power supply required for this or any other card I looked at. That is rather important to know when buying a video card. They were more than happy to tell you it has a gig of ram failing to say what it takes to run it.
In the process of a day long search the manufacturer of my card's web site revealed the power supply requirement is a 300 watt power supply. Several manufacturers don't reveal that info at all. They may have it written on the box but you can't see the boxes when shopping on line. I also discovered, though a direct citation does not come to mind, that you cannot assume a Nvidia 400 series card has more oomph than a 200 series card. Therefore, saying a 200 series or better is required is of little value. A study of Nvidia's website suggest my 240 or 260, which ever it is is actually more powerful than some of their 400 series. This card required a 300 watt power supply. Oh and many reviews omitted mentioning the power supply requirements.

It is just one more thing to verify you cannot assume anything.

I've only got 3 GB of ram and that's as good as the game will run. Some of the places it runs real good. You need at least 4 GB. I've got a good video card and power supply and the game is sluggish. I have to live with it until I upgrade my pc.Richard

So it sounds like I should have been more careful checking the minimum requirements before I bought the game. So far this is the only game I've had problems with, but obviously it's more demanding than anything I've played recently. I guess I'll just hold on to it until such time as I decide to upgrade to a more powerful system. (I assume it's not worth trying to upgrade my current PC, which I bought about 4 or 5 years ago. Thanks for all the help. Now I have to get rid of that nasty ad-ware that I somehow downloaded!! Louis P.S. Too bad I can't run it on my work PC, 16 GB Ram and a GeForce GTX 555 video card! More power than I need for my job related software! wonder if anyone would notice if I swapped it out with my home computer?

Most of the Daedalic games are 2.5D and aren't too demanding. But even that is probably going to change soon.
