Computer - desktop PC, win7, Nvidia750Ti. I'm starting to download some of my Bigfish games to see which will run on my new win7 computer (thanks to gameboomers for lists of which games will play). Safecracker is flickering and jittery. How do I overcome 'access denied' when I try to change and save the config file from bFullScreen=1 to =0 as a suggested fix.

If you're editing the file with Notepad, you can try running Notepad as an Administrator:
Click the Start button, then type
notepad
in the Start Search.
The Search should locate Notepad, so right-click the Notepad it finds and choose to "Run as an Administrator."

You could also check to see whether the config file is set to "Read Only."
Right-click it, Choose Properties, and see if the box for "Read Only" is selected.
If it is, de-select it and OK the change.

Hi Jenny, 'Read Only' is not selected. Have 'run as administrator' in Notepad but I still get 'access denied' when I try to save changes to the config file. I am very new to win7 so maybe there are other settings I need to make. In the User Account Accounts I am 'administrator'.

Just to make sure, being logged in using an account with "Administrator privileges" is not the same as right-clicking and choosing "Run As..."

If you've done both, you might try rebooting, then try to edit the file again.
If the game didn't close down completely when you exited it (due to how Big Fish Game Manager manages the game), Windows might not allow you to change the game's files. Rebooting will make sure everything is shut down.

Let me know if that works.

yes, I had tried right clicking and choosing "run as....". I rebooted, no luck, still 'access denied'. I then tried this: changed the bFullScreen to =0 in the config file and then did a 'save as' to the desktop naming it 'config1.ini'. Moved the original file to the desktop and then moved 'config1.ini file into the game folder and renamed it 'config.ini' The game still opens in full screen and flickers madly same a before. I may have to abandon this game which is a shame as I do like playing it.

Does your NVIDA control panel have an option to optimize your games to run efficiently with NVIDA? If so you might try and let it optimize Safecracker and see if this helps.

If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

This is one of those Kheops games that will not work with newer Nvidia drivers. I have a GTS-450 that's about 4 years old and I couldn't find drivers old enough to work on these older games. Some of the other Kheops games in this category include Nostradamus, Secrets Of Da Vinci, Destination Treasure Island, Cleopatra, Return to Mysterious Island 2, and maybe a few others that I can't recall right now. As far as editing that config file goes, if you installed the game to the default Program Files folder, you might try uninstalling it and re-installing to a different folder (something like C:\Safecracker, for example). Lots of people recommend the My Documents folder, but I think any folder that's not under the Program Files (or the Program Files (x86) folder in Windows 7) should work OK.

Thanks for your post Homer6, I did try changing some Nvidia setting. Uncle Reg - I did as you suggested and installed the game to a My Documents folder, changed the config.ini file to bFullScreen=0 and it worked! The games plays in a smallish screen on the upper left side of my 22" monitor but at least it's playable. Thanks.

You can increase the size of that small window by changing your desktop screen resolution. That window is 1024x768 but if you change the screen resolution to 1024x768 the window sometimes extends slightly beyond the edge of the screen and you might lose access to some of the game controls. If I remember, this is more pronounced on some of the games than others, and is compounded by the fact that the cursor is captured inside the window, and you can't drag the window. You're going to be stuck with the window in the upper left corner of the screen. If some of the window is cut off at 1024x768, try the next higher size that your monitor supports. On mine it's 1152x864, but yours might be different.
