I received a newsletter from Red Thread games (designer of several games including Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Dreamfall Chapters) and I am speculating that they are hinting at another game in the Longest Journey world(s). They referred to two games they are working on: one known to the public and one unknown. And the paragraph heading was " The (longest) road ahead...into 2026". I'm hoping they are hinting that they will reveal a new game in the series in 2026.
But what do I know, I'm just a guy from pre-Stark.
I point, therefore I click.

If I had a choice, I'd prefer a new game vs. a re-release of the first game with updated graphics. I think the basic graphics is part of the atmosphere of this game on replay (same for many classic games) and I'm not sure updating graphics would give an improved or even equal result. In any case, I'd pre-order whatever they create.

I was excited to hear there could be another Longest Journey in the making. When I dug into it I came across this: Red Thread Games is not currently working on a new game in the Dreamfall or The Longest Journey series. The last installment was Dreamfall Chapters, which was released in full in 2016 (with a Final Cut edition in 2017) and concluded the main saga of the series Status of the Series
Conclusion of the Saga: Dreamfall Chapters was specifically developed to be the conclusion of the entire The Longest Journey saga and the "Dreamer Cycle" storyline
Licensing Issues: Red Thread Games has stated that they are not working on any future projects in the series due to various reasons, including licensing terms. The intellectual property (IP) for the series is owned by Funcom, and Red Thread Games developed Dreamfall Chapters under a special licensing agreement
The Longest Journey Home: A potential prequel/sequel game called The Longest Journey Home, which would bridge the gap between previous games and conclude April Ryan's story, was a stretch goal for the Dreamfall Chapters Kickstarter campaign. This goal was not met, and plans for the game have been put on indefinite hold, with the studio director stating it will "probably never happen" and this: The game The Longest Journey Home is not currently in development and is effectively on indefinite hold, as the project's necessary Kickstarter stretch goal was never reached and the game's creator, Ragnar Tørnquist, does not hold the rights to the series Status Update
Status: The game was originally a $2 million stretch goal during the 2013 Kickstarter campaign for Dreamfall Chapters. The goal was not met, falling short by about $500,000
Likelihood of Release: Tørnquist has stated on several occasions (as recently as 2022) that the game will "probably never happen" or "not for a long, long time". He and his studio, Red Thread Games, can only "dream, write, draw and tinker with the concept"
Rights Issues: The primary obstacle is that the intellectual property (IP) for The Longest Journey and Dreamfall series is owned by Funcom, not Red Thread Games. Any decision to make a new game ultimately rests with Funcom, who, according to recent discussions, may not see it as a profitable opportunity
Alternative Storytelling: A short digital comic based on a vignette from the planned game's story was included in the Dreamfall Chapters: The Tome of the Balance book, giving fans a glimpse of what might have been In short, while the creator remains interested in telling the story, there are no current plans or a release date for The Longest Journey Home due to funding and rights limitations Oh well.......This would have been really cool getting another chance to play April. Maybe someday but not any time soon it seems
It's never too late!

Orion, considering it hasn't been announced yet, it wouldn't come up in an AI sweep of the web. There is indeed chatter that points to a possible game. Here is one: Ragnar and TLJ
