Do the candles in the Monastary have to be lit in some order or just the correct ones. I have tried them all and a few patterns etc, but nothing happens.

Just the correct ones.
There is a clue elsewhere.

I don't think it matters what order you light the candles in, but it does matter which ones are lit and which ones are left off. Examine the stained glass pictures in the chapel. One of them hides the correct pattern.

he rillbug - I think you are talking about the lamps in the library - if so - look at the stained glass mural in the chapel. after you have brushed it off (focus on the book) you will see a cross on the right side the white dots denote the lamps that have to be lit. no particular order. hope this is it.

The murals of the saints on either side of the doorway where the Patriarch comes out of to talk to you about Hans.

The saint mural on the left is the one you want to
look at more closely and use an inventory item on.

When you are trying to light the candles, there are
only certain ones that are supposd to be lit.
I started with the candle on the left side of the
entrance of the library. Skip 2 candles and light
the next one. Light the next one. Skip 3
candles and light the next one. Light the next
one. A porthole in the wall should open up.
