GeeGee,

Yes, I remember a gap (on the right of the walkway). I went right over it like it wasn't there.

First you go up to 2nd level, then after pushing the box off you'll see an annimation of a walkway rising into place. Then just look for the forward hand icon....

Unless TLC is onto something and you have the number of cannon balls incorrect.

EDIT: Oh, I see you figured it out. Yes, the box stays on the elevator till the second floor THEN gets shoved off. ALSO, there IS more to get besides the journal. There are clues in the unraveling of the sail (take a picture) and perhaps one other, although I am not certain.

JoanieS,

Sorry I missed your post... so many subjects.

Jayne is probably right that you are off by one on each gear.

And, yes... it is BEST if you go 123, then 321, etc., on the sliders. You will move faster if you do it that way and the game allows it. Read some of the other posts on this one for more advice.

TLC, do you want to know about it? If you like I can send you a screen capture. Like most of the maps and drawings in Myst, they are a little hard to read, but they have a purpose.

Wait ..sorry, I missed another post. GeeGee said she raised a flag and took a picture - that's probably the same thing I'm talking about. Plus she got the picture of the cloth and used the amulet on some things.... I think that's it.

dadguy...I can see your real busy, so reply when ever possible.
I think it was you that mentioned your running this game on an XP with an ATI RADEON, as I am also. There was a ? on it in download, and said: "may have problems"
Well! everything is fine, except when I click load game, where, and save, exit; the time process for these seems slower and slower.
Is this cause my system can't handle this game as it progresses or is this normal for a game that is saving so much as you get into it.
And are you experiencing this also.?
PS I feel so sorry for sami, do you think theres a glitch in the game at that spot?

SKIPPIDY,

I have XP with a GE Force MX 420. But, I am experiencing the same response!!! When I hit ESC to get the main menu it takes a minute to give me the main menu. Then when I hit SAVE GAME, another minute... then when I choose a savename and hit SAVE, another minute (or more). It does seem to be getting slower and slower.

I'll experiment with this. It may have something to do with the fact that I have my graphics set to 1280 X 1024 for my normal desktop. But it really is annoying.

I have rebooted a couple times to try to "clear the memory", and sometimes it helps, but it is still slow.

I have a WinXP with 2.5GHz and 512 MB RAM.

I also had that issue with slow menu load times. After starting the game or pressing escape, loading the main menu took over a minute. So did going to the save or load screens or saving a game. For some reason loading a game was pretty fast.

This is with an AIW 9700 Pro, 2.53GHz P4 and 1GB of RAM. I am, however, also running my desktop at a native resolution of 1280x1024. The game's set to run at a lower resolution, but maybe the desktop resolution has something to do with it?

I tried with and without antialiasing/anisotropic filtering, and saw no discernable difference. I also tried changing the game resolution. I haven't tried changing my desktop's native resolution, though...I'm running from an LCD monitor, so I try to change resolutions as little as possible.

I do notice that when I open task manager while Myst IV is running, it's often using almost my entire CPU (around 95%-99%).

After finishing the game, I haven't yet gone back to check out some of the areas I want to revisit. That's mostly because I'm tired of dealing with the horribly long load times every time I save...

Spire tuning crystals:
No wonder!!!!! I was turning the gears wrong. Didn't even see how the gears relate to the antennae for positioning. At least, I have lots of practice for tuning on the antennae!!

Thanks you all!!!!

Dadguy, Thanks for the offer. I wasn't too far ahead from there, so I went back to a previous save and saw the map and took a picture.

Now I'm back at the locked gate and stuck. If those hammer thingies are supposed to slide, I can't figure out how to do it. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

Spire-crystal tones: I am SO confused. It seemed like I got the frequencies in right. It looked like something metal extended out from the front of the console. Two black shapes appeared in the console area behind the antennae. Went forward into an area that has the Sirrus's journal describing where he discovered he had a sister. Went back to the spider chair and put the frequencies back in. Now, up above the spider chair, it is a brilliant white light. Is this normal?

JoanieS -- When I got to this point I hadn't a clue what to do so I cheated and used the "In Game" Hint number 3. I was so tired of Spire by that time I just wanted out and I could not figure out what to do next.

Maybe someone else can give you a nudge but nudges didn't help me. You are only a few more steps from being out of there, if that's any consolation.

And congratulations for getting the tuning done correctly!

Good luck.
Jayne

Thanks, Jayne. I wasn't even sure I had done the tuning right. So, its safe to save this game and keep on trucking!!!!

I see from previous posts that people are talking about an in-game hint system. Where can I find this? Thanks smile

You access it through the "options" section, GeeGee--go to "Game Options" and then the bottom icon "Help Map". There are three different levels of hints (using the three icons on the top of the hints page), so you can get as much or as little help as you want...

Joanie--If you raised the spider chair console, crossed a black bridge in front of the chair, and were in an area with crystals in glass containers, then you were at the bomb making area.

I don't remember seeing anything about Sirrus having a sister.

Maybe someone else can comment. I hope your truck drives better than mine did at that point. smile

Thanks Jenny for the help information. Am at a locked wooden gate in Haven and there seems to be a puzzle to the left. Have opened it and there are only two things that can be moved that I see. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated smile duh

I used the help option to figure out the gate puzzle! Found another totem and used necklace on stuff in mid lake. That's it. Now back to get those monkeys etc settled. Wish me luck!

Hi, no one answered my question so I thought I would ask again. Could I get the spoiler for the mangree puzzle? The hint system in the game isn't working correctly. There are words missing at the bottom of the pages. And on this solve 5 and 6 are missing. Anyone else have this problem with the game?

Dragonia,

I didn't have a problem with the in game hints, but many other have reported that half a page is missing (reportedly due to video drivers that are not the latest). Problem is, many are reluctant to go back and look because it takes so much time.

For now, can you read the posts between Housewife and I on page 15 and 16 of this Quest topic? I think they will help.

If you miss getting him the first time (according to the ingame hints) then you'll have to try again, and the pattern of the in game hints won't work. So, you'll do well to read what we said and hopefully learn enough to solve it by understanding the basic logic. Keys:

- Make sure you get the white mangree in the left (with poison berries) hutch, then leave him there.

- Then chase the camoudile around (with the other three mangrees only) till he falls in and use the 3 tones (QUICKLY!) to have the poison berry thrown. Housewife mentions the correct tones in her post.

Good luck,

Dadguy

JoanieS,

Yes, I think Jayne is right... you seem to have solved the tuning puzzle. You did not need (and should not unless you are just killing time) to go back up in the spider chair. The final puzzle is there with those two vats to the left of that journal.

GeeGee, well done! Now onto the drawbridge puzzle (the reason you've been gathering all of these totem symbols).

I just updated my video driver 1 month ago. Any other ideas?

I know the 3 tones. Is there a spolier for the puzzle as this is my 3rd day attempting to solve it as the darn little white mangree won't throw the berries when camoudile is stuck in the pit.

Dragonia, what we said on page 15 and 16 and what I wrote above IS the spoiler. If you mean, is there a CHEAT for it... I know of no cheats. It is one of the two hardest puzzles in the game because it has a time factor and requires good hand/eye/mouse coordination.

It took me 4 or 5 tries... each time I would throw the berry while he was stuck in the pit; and even though the berry got there while he was still in the pit, he got out! Evidently you have to get the berry there really early! Liz had to try 20 times (I think she said).
