When I last played this game, I completed Old World Blues and uninstalled it. Now I want to play the Lonesome Road DLC but can't find my previous saves. I checked Documents and find the saves folder, but it is empty. Saves are not supposed to be deleted on uninstall from Steam. Any chance it is in a different location?

If I can't find a save, I thought I might start a new game and use a cheat to get my level up to 25 and then see if I can play the DLC. Any chance that will work? I am playing on Win 7.

I don't have this game, but
according to web searches the saves can be in

C:\Users\your-username\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves
or
C:\Users\your-username\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\

My computer doesn't have a "My Games" folder but has a "Saved Games" folder inside the
C:\Users\your-username\ folder

Since this is a Steam game, check whether Steam is putting your saves online or in a Steam folder.

I have a My Games folder with FalloutNV folder including a Saves folder, but it is empty.

In your last sentence, are you referring to enabling cloud saves?

I don't know why the folder is empty unless they changed the save game location (or made the saves hidden). You could also try looking at alternate Users folders, like
C:\Users\Public\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves
or
C:\Users\Default\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves

I found one forum post that said New Vegas' online Steam saves had been disabled, but that post was from 3 years ago. Who knows what they're doing now.

The default is Libraries/Documents/My Documents/My Games/FalloutNV/Saves unless you chose to name a different location at install.

Cloud sync wouldn't have the files if they were deleted since its purpose it to allow you to play across several different PC's. If you delete content, it syncs up and would have been deleted there as well.

Deleting all local content should only remove the game files, personally I've never seen saves removed by uninstalling a game on Steam.

As far as using a cheat to level up, you can do that, but you'll also need to assign the Perks that would be appropriate for that and the earlier levels.

Here's an article on GamesRadar with a number of different builds and associated perks.

Typically, for any game I back up saves in a "Previous Games" folder and name the saved folder with the level and character type. That way if I feel like trying a different character build I can start a new game, but keep a character I liked in the wings to play at a later date when the mood hits me.

Jenny, I checked those locations. Default had a saved games folder, but it was empty. New Vegas never used cloud saves as far as I know. I did read something about updates deleting saves, don't know if true but I have games I have uninstalled in Steam and the saves are still on my computer. Thanks for your help.

Trail, thanks. That is encouraging and the character builder will be helpful. I was wondering about that. I'll give it a try. I think I will keep the last save of any game in a different location to be safe.
