Is it possible to :

1) Download and save a Big Fish game directly to an external drive before playing it ??

2) AND be able to tell its title ??

At the moment (using Win7) I just allow Big Fish games to download and be saved until I wish to play them.
They are auto saved in my Downloads folder (in C Drive) and a game shortcut icon for each appears on Desktop.
[If I look at the saves in Downloads though, the game titles don't show.]

These questions have no doubt been asked before but I am hopeless at finding stuff at Gameboomers via "search"

I download and store all my Big Fish-casual games on external hard drive.
At the BF games manager, tell it where you want the game downloaded.
- Open the "options" tab.
- Select download.
- fill in the "games location installation". (example: D:\HOG)
It will automatically download the BF games there.
- They are labeled the same as what you downloaded.

I make my own - shortcut to desktop.
Right click the application file.
This enables me to skip the games manager part and opens the game directly.

I presume so since you open the game from your download folder; then the BF game manager.

I'm not sure what you're backing up, Mad.
When I download an installer from Big Fish using Firefox, it's only a tiny stub installer. Running the stub starts up the Big Fish Client which does the actual downloading, installing, and activating of the game.

Well, I appear to have fallen at the first hurdle

I thought I had successfully changed the download destination for Big Fish games to my external drive because when I go to Game Manager/Options/ Downloads, the download location is showing as F:\BigFish.
["F" being the drive letter for this particular external drive and "BigFish" being the folder I created on it to take downloads of Big Fish games.]

So, I downloaded a game (one I had recently played and afterwards uninstalled) but it downloaded, installed and was activated and came up as immediately playable on my main Win7 machine.

And the BigFish folder on my F Drive remains empty.

Any ideas of what I've done wrong - or perhaps failed to do ??

I don't know why it didn't install to F:
Maybe you need to reboot after changes? Or never start the Big Fish Game Manager while F: is disconnected? I don't know.
That's not really the important thing because you can move the game folder around after it's been installed and the game will still work from wherever you put it (as long as it's the same computer).

Are you planning to always play this game from the same computer?
If so, you can go ahead and activate it.

If not, make sure you interrupt it before the activation step, after it installs but before it activates. Otherwise when you use the game on another computer it will play as a 60 min or 90 min demo, expiring after its time runs out. You will need the Big Fish Game Manager installed on the other computer in order to activate the game.

Activation is only good on the computer you activate the game on.
That's why Cue's instructions are important. They're the first time I saw a procedure for backing up the full game so it didn't have to be re-downloaded.

If you have a game all ready to activate, you can use the Big Fish Game Manager to activate and use the game on any computer.
If you have a game that's been activated, you can only use it on the computer it was activated on. Otherwise the game will only work for 60 minutes (or 90 minutes if the demo is for 90 minutes).

Big Fish is not like GOG or DRM-Free on Humble. It's a lot more complicated to back things up in a way so the game can be played on another computer without re-downloading the whole thing. The closest you can get is an unactivated game in the game folder.

However when I booted up and did the procedure again today .... It worked perfectly .... Using the method from MaG.

So what I was doing wrong yesterday, heaven knows !!!!

Anyway, I've now very happily started downloading favourite Big Fish games to store on the external drive - and I'm very grateful to you and MaG for helping me be able to DO that
