You know, the one that made you slap yourself in the forehead making you feel dumber than a rock. laugh

The one that comes to mind was my first game Riven. It took weeks to play Riven and when I reached the end I couldn't open the lid under the telescope. I ranted and raved to my hubby that I had the right numbers. It took 2 days to realize I never clicked on the lid after I entered the numbers. "Duh!" slapforehead

What was yours? laugh

I just experienced one of those moments, while playing Black Mirror. I wandered in circles for several days making no progress, until I checked a walkthru and found out that I should right-click on hotspots. Duh.... rolleyes

My duh moment was also while playing the Black Mirror. I was stuck in William's Study until Jenny gave me the hint to right click onitems as well. I also have duh moments in adventure games when I get stuck but that is the most recent one.

I know it seems that Syberia is the only game I've played besides ND, but it's just not true.

Again, when I went up in the tower to get out of Barrockstadt, I couldn't see anyone, including Captain Malatesta. I wandered around for about a half hour trying to figure out what to do.

I also could not figure out how to draw the mammoth for Momo at the beginning and had to consult a walkthrough!

Playing: !! Syberia II finally. \:D !!

Oh, boy, I too, could not find the Captain in the telescope room. He just blended into the background for me.

Right clicking does me in all the time lol I'm forever stuck because I forget to right click.

I do recall one really, really duh moment (Jenny will remember this one wink ) We were playing SPQR together and were trying to build an arch - we were missing a piece - could not find that puppy anywhere - she and I were stuck for days. So, we whined on the board for help - answer? Did you check inventory? slapforehead

My most recent one is when I missed seeing the ladder to the right of the lockers at the beginning of Rama. I thought I'd checked that area thoroughly, but I'd missed a node.

way back when I played MYST the first time, in the age with the swamps and the treehouses (what's the name of that age, anyway?), I couldn't get the elevator to work. I tried everything, then I finally consulted a WT and discovere I had to shut the door!

Back in the days before the current sophisticated copy protections (Starforce 3 GRRRRR)there at times was a book that came with game that had certain information in it. Well you guessed it when replaying Return to Zork a while back I came to the part with the teacher and couldn't answer her questions cause I totally forgot about that book??? DUH!!

When I played Myst3, I went up with the elevator and was wondering why I didn't see a door or a window. I just had to turn around. Double duh!

When playing Starship Titanic, my first game, I was such a computer rookie that when Fentible, the Doorbot, asked me if I would help, I typed "yes" and sat waiting for him to respond. When he didn't, I tried using all caps, and when that didn't work, I tried putting spaces between the letters. I was convinced that I must have done something wrong, so I reinstalled the game. I was just about to end my brief foray into gaming, when I finally realized that I had to hit the Return (Enter) key to register my answer. blush

I also remember in the same game going around and around the Embarkation Lounge trying to find the plinth so I could push the button. I hadn't realized that there were different kinds of arrows to allow me to turn 90

Hi smile

If I confessed JUST how many "duh" moments I've experienced whilst playing games, this whole board would be as blush as I am wink

But....One that springs readily to mind is when I spent nearly three weeks trying to win the spitting competition in Monkey island II.
It was only my second computer game ever and I still wasn't used to watching for any graphics that might change - so when that vital item moved briefly in the wind, I completely ignored it !!!! lol

Cheers.

Hi,
There is a door you have to close (after opening it in the first place) to access a passage in Riven right after you get to the frog catching thingy. never thought to close it so wandered for ages wandering what to do next.
It was such a simple puzzle design. I meticulously put switches and levers back the way they were till I was sure I knew what I was doing but just never thought to shut that door.
Taught me a good lesson for future games smile

Flotsam,
I ended up guessing the color for that sphere because I didn't find that passage until the second time I played the game. That was really an "aha" moment for me.

Well Dee, I have 2 that come to mind right away...
In Law and Order 1...I posted, whining my head off that I couldn't get to a location...come to find out that I needed to scroll down on the map. I did not know I could do that! So I whined my head off for nothing! blush

The other worst DUH I had was in Longest Journey...I was stuck and frustrated and again, I whined...only to find out that I really just didn't know my right from my left! blush lol

Great question Dee!!! wave

wave Wysewoman, I did exactlly the same thing with the elevator in the Channelwood age of Myst-couldn't get that darn elevator to move. (This was my very first AG.) Finally posted a question to a game board-this was before I discovered GB-and got a reply from someone who also didn't think to close the door 'till his 7 year old son suggested it! slapforehead

Safecracker held a couple of memorable moments for me. Put in the combo to one of the safes --won't open, put it in again, not opening, again, again, again....went back to a save, did it again, finally (by mistake I think) clicked on the middle of the dial.....you guessed it.

Also spent tons of time in that game trying to beat the slot machine LOL.

happy trails,

Carolyn

I remember that door in Riven very well - not as if I hadn't met a similar close the door situation in the second Monkey Island game. Thanks for your help then MacDee!

I also missed for hours that you needed to press on a button for the Fire Marble puzzle!

That moment in Journey to the Center of the Earth when you are looking at the rail car with the dinosaur and don't realize that you've already traveled to a different environment.
