I just got a new computer (was told it doesn't have very good specs), but I've not played any new or recent games in years, because my old computer couldn't handle them. What is a good site to find Adventure games, detective games, scary (not bloody) games and possibly funny games. Note: I'm having trouble with using
Steam; they have said they'd help me. Basically, I'm looking for games that are not found on
BF; i.e., adventure or large file games.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Hi Laurette, I moved your post over to Adventure Game Discussions so that our members can hopefully offer you some suggestions.

As an alternative to Steam, I would recommend GOG. They have a good selection of older adventure games tweaked to run on newer systems as well as quite a few recent adventure games (some of which are indie games without high system requirements).

But with the very low end computer you have, I would ask here if your computer can play any games you pick out before you purchase any. I don't think you're going to be able to play any of the new or recent ones unless they can be played with integrated graphics. Be sure to look at the computer requirements for any of them... GOG is very good at listing them.

I play Carol Reed games on my Surface Pro 3.... so I would think you could play them on your machine... You could ask Mikael.

Thanks, Winfrey. I'm just not sure her integrated graphics could even play those games. But I'm sure Mikael could tell her.

Plus, Laurette, you can download those games directly from Mikael's website.

Her computer could definitely play the Carol Reed games.

I'd like to recommend looking at POStudios I adore The Silver Lining and Cognition. TSL is free (and there is shorty that's connected to TSL that's free too. They do also have other games, but the only ones of theirs I have is TSL and Cognition.

Aside from there, all of my other games *digital-wise* I get from GOG and Steam.

I do recommend this adventure game (when I got it it was from Himalaya's website, and they do have a few other games as well. Himalaya Studios

And just as a "for instance," Laurette's new computer does not have the specs to play Cognition. This is why it's going to be important to look at the computer requirements before making any purchases. But it's great to have another option to purchase games. Thanks, NDLVR!

I'm a huge fan of Itch.io (both as a gamer and as a dev - also devs get a bigger cut of the profits there than at Steam or GOG), so here are some links for you based on what you said in your post:

https://itch.io/games/top-rated/genre-adventure/store/tag-point-and-click

https://itch.io/games/top-rated/genre-adventure/store/tag-detective/tag-point-and-click

https://itch.io/games/top-rated/genre-adventure/store/tag-comedy/tag-point-and-click

I should add the disclaimer that I also added the link using the "Comedy" tag because my game comes up first in that particular search laugh

There are also plenty of good quality free games.

Have fun!

Oops yeah I forgot about FFG - Khris is currently upgrading the site so definitely worth keeping tabs on. (The "old" site is good anyway though!) Some really nice games available there.

Looks like you might have lots of options, Laurette! Just watch those computer spec requirements and you should find plenty of games!

Since you've bought a new computer, it will definitely run the Carol games.
