Sorry. Another stupid question. Not every time, but most of the time, when I open up GameBoomers Forum the side scrolling bar is so thin I can barely grab it and there are no arrows at top or bottom. If I close the internet and open it again and come back it is usually okay. I have noticed this slimmer bar more often lately in other places too, such as Steam and Outlook? maybe. Anyway, here on GameBoomers it is more like the screen is off too far to the right (as opposed to just being slimmer) but I don't know why it would all of a sudden start doing this. This is on Win 10. I can't remember now if it is doing it on Win 7 also and I just shut that computer down so I can't check it now. It is very annoying to me.

Does your monitor have adjustments for the screen size and position?
It sounds like the picture is off to the right, like you say, or possibly slightly too large for the screen.

I don't know if I can adjust it or not. I'll have to try to figure that out. The thing is, this just started happening several days ago. It was fine prior to that, and will go back to normal if I get out and go back in. Also, it doesn't happen every time, just sometimes. I did think at first that it was too large for the screen but it seems to be that it is off to the right. I'm wondering if I hit something by accident; some key or something. The monitor controls are not visible. I have to swipe the side of it and sometimes that does happen by accident or the wrong setting area comes up when I am trying to turn the monitor on or off if I swipe the wrong spot. Maybe something opened up and I hit some adjustment by accident.

I'm in the Win 7 now which is fine and as I sit here, I don't think I had a problem in here with that. (Different monitor.)

Anyway, thank you. I'll have to see if I can check the adjustments in there.

If this is on Windows 10, it might be a Windows 10 "feature" that isn't working as intended.
See if anything on this page helps --

Oh, now that's interesting. I will have to check that out when I get on my Win 10. I currently have XP up which uses the same monitor, so I will have to look at this later. And, that reminds me, I was wondering if using the monitor with XP and 10 might be causing the problem. I had not had the XP in use the first few weeks of using 10 so the timing does coincide.

Double thanks!

Oh, and something else. I did move something by accident but I don't know what I did or how to fix it. I hope I can explain this right. When I open up Firefox and click on Gameboomers (or any other site) the tab is over to the right maybe a half inch, rather that flush on the left side. I knew something had happened but I didn't know what it was I had done and still don't. Does this ring any bells??

Is everything over a half inch or so, or just the open tab?

It seems to be just the tab (and Gambeboomers is over a little bit).

Do you get the same thing if you open in Edge?

I'll have to try it a few times since it doesn't happen all the time.

I did disable the "thin scroll bar" thing though. Thanks Jenny! Too bad Steam doesn't have that.

It seems to be okay in Edge. I must have messed something up in Firefox somehow, or on Gameboomers as I'm not sure it's doing it on other sites. I don't go on many other sites. I'll have to pay more attention and check some other sites.

Yeah, it's a Firefox thing. Not just Gameboomers but the home page and any other sites I look at have the screen over too far to the right. I don't know what the heck I did!

I doubt this will help, but maybe hold down CTRL and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to make the size on the screen smaller or larger?

No, that doesn't help. I googled and found to "alt/spacebar" "move" "use left arrow to move the screen" "enter". It doesn't fix it though. It works for that session but closing Firefox and going back in, the screen is over to the right again.

Oh, I tried it again and this time shrunk the screen using my cursor on the side of the screen and it seems to work. I have it too small now so will have to fix it some more but I'd rather it be too small than too big.

Can I assume you've also done that "high tech" fix of rebooting your computer?

Yes, I've been shutting it down at night and this has gone on for several days. I think it is fixed now though by doing what I mentioned. Or not. It is, but now the page is movable! How do I lock it in place?

I have an Acer monitor and there is a button "under" the monitor - amongst the other buttons - that toggles the position of the screen.

Until my Son in Law has time to have a look, I currently have to use that button if I switch to Win10 because in Win10 the whole screen is too far to the right with a black band down the left.

But one touch on the toggle button immediately centralises it.

Maybe you have a similar control somewhere on your monitor, oldbroad ??

I'll check Mad but I'm sure I remember accidentally clicking something and the tab in Firefox moving over and then this problem started. I am always accidentally hitting things. One day I had my "caps lock" set backwards somehow. I finally figured out it was something with the "control" key that I accidentally hit.

Oldbroad have you tried dragging the top of the screen over to the left to center the screen?

Hi Kaki's Sister. Originally, I was not able to do that. Now I can but the screen doesn't stay in place. It moves around easily if I am not careful. The whole screen.

Maybe I'm just getting confused now and this is normal. Can you just move your whole screen over? I don't mean move it up or down or side to side with the little arrow thing. I mean move the whole screen around. Mine actually seems pretty stable now, staying in place, but I can easily move it. Maybe I always could but never tried it and didn't know I could.

Maybe moving a screen around is a "feature" of Windows 10 -- or a "feature" of your current video card drivers on that specific computer.
I'm not really sure I've seen what you're talking about, but considering you never noticed it happening with XP or 7, it sounds like something specific to your Windows 10 computer, maybe due to Windows 10 or to the drivers for the computer's video card.

Did you ever get your tabs back in the right place with Firefox?
Firefox has a "Customize" ability, where you can right-click somewhere in the toolbar at the top and get an option for "Customize." When you're in that "Customize" interface you can drag things around. When you want to get out of it, you can click the "Exit Customize" button or use the Escape key to get back to normal. Maybe you'd be able to drag the tabs back to the left when you were in the "Customize" screen -- or at least see some indicator of why the tabs are moved to the right. There is an object called "flexible space" that can get created by accident, and that could add extra space to the left of your tabs. I'm not saying you "accidentally" got into the "Customize" screen and created a "flexible space" but there are mysterious keyboard shortcuts that don't seem to be documented anywhere, and ways to accidentally click-and-drag something if your hand slips or your mouse glitches, which can change your interface. In some cases I've been able to fix things by going into the "Customize" screen to see what went wrong.

Yes, you can move your screen around... this has been a feature in Windows since Windows 7. I used it all the time in Windows 7. It's called "snapping" a screen. You can grab the top of the screen and move it to the left or the right. Once your cursor touches the edge of the screen, it "snaps" to exactly 1/2 the screen. It allows you to have two (or more) screens open side by side.

BUT! You should only be able to do it if you "grab" the top of the screen with your left mouse button and hold it down.

The tabs are still to the right a half inch. I looked in that "customize" but don't see anything helpful. It looks like that "flexible space" gets added into the toolbar itself, not to the left of the tab. I don't know much about any of the keyboard shortcuts at all, so that is often a problem for me!

I don't remember "snap" working like that but I do remember I didn't like it the one or two times I used it so I never used it again. I seem to remember feeling like I could not get the screen to be right again.

Anyway, I guess this is probably okay now. Since I know I can move the screen by grabbing it, I know I should be able to move it back in place again if I accidentally do that.

Thanks for your help. If I do encounter any more problem with it, you can be sure I'll be back smile.

Hopefully we can do more to help next time! With snap, all you do to return the screen the way it was is click on the "maximize/minimize" right next to the X in the upper right.

In an older version of Firefox, I remember clicking between areas (where there was a thin, dotted line) instead of what I meant to click on and it turned something from vertical to horizontal (or maybe it was the other way around) which spoiled the left side of my Firefox. I don't know if there is something similar now. I'm not looking at the Windows version of Firefox at the moment and I don't see the dotted line, so it may no longer be relevant.

I don't remember "snap" doing what you described either.
Snap changes windows, not the whole screen.
I found it useless and it got in the way while trying to arrange the windows of different programs, so eventually I disabled it. I usually have at least 3 windows open while working, and as many as 12, so being limited to two, side by side, was not in the least bit helpful.

It sure sounds like you're talking about moving the whole screen (and every window on it) and not just a single window.
