Hello,
I just bought the game from Steam and it started up just fine, but after adjusting the options, the game now crashes on the loading screen. I can't even get in to change the settings. I tried reinstalling but no luck.

System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)

Could my computer be too old?

Thanks,
Adam

I am not seeing your video card on that list. What video card do you have?

I suspect that this computer has graphics integrated into the CPU. The Core i7 4765T has Intel® HD Graphics 4600. I'm not sure if the integrated graphics meets the requirements for the game. I should have time to check tomorrow.

I do believe you are right about the integrated graphics.

Thanks for posting those system requirements, Marian. Adam Beal's integrated graphics do meet those minimum specs, but not the recommended specs. But this computer "should" be able to play this game.

Yes, those are my thoughts too, Drac. Having read here and there people's comments about their experience playing this game, many found that the game performed quite poorly even though their computer met or exceeded the system requirements. On my computer, for instance, which is not high end by any means but meets or exceeds the system requirements, I found myself looking at the initial loading screen for a very long time. In Adam's case I would have thought that the game would run but that it would not run well.

Here is a post from Reddit, where a player described their (not atypical) experience with the game:

Quote
My gaming PC loads the game to the menu in about 10-15 seconds. After seeing various posts from people with absurdly long load times, I tested the game on a couple laptops, starting with my current Dell XPS 15 which exceeds the requirements and didn’t have any problems (as expected though). I moved onto a much much older Samsung laptop from 2010 which is below the minimum requirements and it took a good 15-20 minutes of waiting on the loading screen until I got to the menu (it actually got there, surprisingly! frame rate wise the playability was next to nothing though)

I wanted to figure out why this was causing such an issue for people with computers that meet the minimum requirements (I didn’t have any other computers to test that really fit this criteria, I either had computers too far below the minimum requirements or ones which exceeded) so I decided to dig around the Unity log files for the game. What I found is more proof that the game is super unoptimized. According to the log, there is some messy code somewhere which causes a few errors on startup along with an inefficient way of loading things when the game starts up. A game of this size should definitely not be taking that long to load, especially with solid state drives and all that now.

Another good way to tell the game uses more resources than it really needs is that it begins making both of the fans on the graphics card in my gaming PC spin almost immediately after I get into the game - normally this doesn’t happen until the card actually needs it and temperatures/load gets high in a demanding game. Even then, it can take a little while for them to kick in.

The main thing that I’m mad about and feel for other people is HeR’s support team. They are barely offering technical support regarding MID and all I’ve seen so far suggested by them in reply to the game not loading or running as expected (on a computer which should be fine) is “Sorry! Your computer doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for this game.” This is annoying, because I know that they made the requirements for this game way too high for what it is, and that’s just another sign of laziness and poor optimization.

Do you remember what options you changed?
If any of the changes required more graphics power than the default, that may be what's keeping the game from starting.

If you can't access the options through the game because the game won't start, and uninstalling the game doesn't get rid of the change in options, you may have to run a registry cleaner or something like Revo Uninstaller to get rid of the changes.

Sometimes there is a settings file in the save game folder for the game, but it may not be something you can edit with Notepad. Make sure this folder is gone after you uninstall. If it stays after you uninstall, delete it manually.

Such a sad state of events for this game and gaming franchise.

If you have CCleaner, you can run the registry cleaner in that program too.

OK so I have an update:

I got the game to run after uninstalling and reinstalling again (maybe there was an issue there?)
It seems to run fine (knock on wood) so I'll leave the settings as is.

I had the same issue with Her's tech support. I sent them an email on Monday and never heard back from from them.

On the other had I have to give big thanks to all the Gameboomers here who responded. I joined this community 14 years ago and so glad I did smile

Thanks again!

-Adam
