Read the backside of the note for instructions on how to use the setup. Place the resistor/u-shaped object on top. Look close on the round object at the center of the resistor and set it to 8 using the +/- icon. Place the electrolysis tube in front of the u-shaped object Did you place the resistor/u-shaped object on top? That is the u-shaped object that the walkthrough is referring to.
