So, lots of stuff going on in my family, friends and job in this crazy world currently. This evening though, I was sitting back with our pup, after my wife went to bed, listening to the country silence with a couple of the windows open. We air things out a bit some evenings if it's not too cold, to keep the house fresh during the winter.

Our pup perked up and started giving little "rrrrrufs!" looking at me with a kind of shocked look on her face; then I heard it. Our pup Rukia has only been with us for a little over a year and hasn't experienced the late night cow herding through the middle of town until that night. In the winter after snow falls, our village's main street is a convenient thoroughfare from a large cattle farm to their fields on the far side of the county border. They do it late at night, so as to not disturb things too much (not like we have a ton of traffic anyway lol) She was looking so excited by the sounds, I decided to take her out for a late night walk to watch the herd go by.

When we got there, she was like a little kid at Disneyland. She kept jumping back and forth, dropping into the typical play pose with front feet down and splayed, then running up to me with a big doggie grin on her face. A few of the cows looked over and obviously perceived that she was no threat and sort of nodded, snorted a hello. Since she's half Pyrenees, who are bred to guard herds and flocks, there might have even been some kind of intuitive simpatico going on there. In any case, there was definitely a subtle communication going on between her and the cows as they went by, and she was just loving it.

We walked back home after the herd passed, and she romped through the snow as happy as I've ever seen her. After cleaning the snow off her paws she flopped into her bed and was sound asleep within about 20 minutes.

That whole event reminded my how lucky I am right now, to be here, to have someone I love to go through all this together, and a pup who really brightens our days and nights.

It's those little things that are really good to appreciate every now and again. It really helps when dealing with the bigger things that life throws our way.

I know, silly stuff, but just thought I'd share. smile

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

Thanks, Trail. I enjoyed that very much. Nice story and it had cows and a pup. Can't beat that.

Trail, if not for dogs, I believe I would have gone mad by now. Thank you for your story, it made my day!
And if you want to have fun with your pup, try giving her the play bow. It's one of the ways I break the ice with a new pup that may be hesitant. They love it! It gives them zoomies! lol

Have a great day!

Trail, it's things like that which are the REAL reasons for being on the planet. All the other awful stuff is just manufactured!

Gardens put to bed for the winter. Time for some gaming!

Trail, your description was so great, I could picture exactly what you were talking about. It's so nice that your dog can run around freely like that. City living typically means dogs being on leashes. So much fun for your pup, no wonder she went right to sleep, and probably dreamt about herding cattle! lol

I absolutely loved your story, Trail. This is what life is all about, and how often we miss it altogether due to thinking about some stupid problem that won't even matter a week or two later.

Thanks for sharing your story, I have 3 dogs and even though they can be a pain at times, most of the times they make us laugh and with this COVID going on, we can use all the cheering up.
So happy to see your enjoying your Pup and again thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Trail.

Life is very complicated these days and it's nice to be reminded of what's really important.

We, too, love our quiet nights in the country.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
