ok, my next question is: I have an old Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000. I tried to go to Microsoft but it doesn't seem to support this driver any longer.. this is for my xp 32bit .....
Is there a generic driver I could use

If you have it connected to your XP, see if going to Device Manager will install generic Microsoft drivers.

There are drivers available, but it's all from places like softpedia etc. and you really have to watch them for using download wrappers that have things you don't want. Try this one at your own risk! Also found them at driverguide with the same caveat!

Thanks, I did go into DM at one point to see it there.... but this time you got me to go back and I tried to get the driver to up date... it came back with it had the best driver available. I then went to go out of it touched my mouse and the curser moved! Perhaps it wasn't pointing correctly in the computer... thanks for the nudge... Ya saw those different sites but they scare the sh(& out of me....

Who knows! What do you use for a receiver with this mouse? A little USB dongle thingie? Sometimes those go bad and sometimes you just need to try a different USB port.
