It absolutely needs a remake. We may remember fondly the originally game (as I do), but if you play it today, it would feel like an outdated piece of mess from the get go. LucasArts remakes of past games, like Full Throttle, Monkey Island, etc., all try to preserve the original "feel" of the games. But in the original KOTOR, an NPC tells you how to use the mouse mid-conversation, which is so 90s even for me who lived through in that era. The camera control doesn't let you look up or down in the original. I don't know how they would remake that without significant graphical updates.
