Boy, I sure agree with you about Alien Town, Marian! I have replayed that one, too. Excellent in every way, and one of my Top 20. Holds up well for a game five years old, too. 5BN is one company whose games I will buy without playing the Demo first.

So, I was playing Mystery Tales 2: The Twilight World and having a good bit of fun with the game. Got to the end of Chapter 4 (of 5) and hit a game stopping glitch. I see others in the BF forum had the problem when they played the game years back. Apparently, it was never fixed. Very disappointed. Even though it is fun and fairly easy, I really don't want to replay the whole game. I already spent 5 hours in it. However, I know it will gnaw at me and I'll probably restart and try to do the puzzle that glitched me a little differently. There was a post about doing it slowly and leaving a particular item for last. sad

That's no fun at all, ob. I did not know about glitches with this game. Will keep it in mind if I decide to play it.

It's a good game Marian, and I think you would like it, IF it worked properly. I tried it again and still could not finish it. I may give it one more go in a different computer.

I went ahead and tried it in Win 7 and made it through the whole main game. Still have the bonus chapter to play but am thankful I made it past the glitch!

Almost 5 years ago I purchased the two Shaoulin Mystery games, I believe on the recommendation of Jenny100. I finally tried to play the first one tonight but cannot because it uses Flash. I then watched a "Let's Play" video but it is incomplete and I cannot find any more parts to it. frown

It does look like the second game will play though so I guess I will be playing that one next.

I did the walkthrough for this one, oldbroad. Don't know if it was the first or second.

Thanks Ana (that is the first one) but since I cannot play the game, I was hoping to at least watch a video of it. It does not seem though that the second game continues the first so I guess it doesn't much matter.

I finished Shaolin Mystery: Revenge of the Terracotta Warriors. Nothing special with the puzzles. A lot of HO scenes and cut scene text that went by too fast to read so I could not even follow the story which was annoying at the end for sure.

I just looked, and I don't have this game in my Purchase History. Not sure why the text was going by so fast, as I don't see anyone in the reviews section mentioning this and you would think they might have if they had experienced the problem.

Interestingly, the first Shaolin Mystery appears to have been removed from the Big Fish website. That one I do have in my Purchase History and I did play it, but don't remember much about it.

Marian, the partial video walkthrough for the first game showed that game had audio, not just text. This second game didn't. When you talked to people, you had to click to advance the conversation but in the cut scenes it just went crazy fast. There was a *replay* button you could click but not at the end of the cut scene. It was on each page. Two different cut scenes froze on me on the first part of it and then I was able to hit the replay button and it replayed that first part and continued on. I am just figuring it has to do with it being an older game on a newer, faster computer or something. (I played it in Windows 7.) BUT, that first night when I tried to play the first game, I got some message when I was shutting down my computer about the game not running right with an option to notify Microsoft and a question if the game ran right or not. (I do not really remember specifically what it said but something on that line.) I clicked that the game ran right so I could shut down. I assumed the message was about that first game but I had also tried this second game so maybe something just wasn't working properly with it. I don't know.

Yes, I was thinking that maybe the problem had something to do with a faster processor, although it seems odd to me nevertheless.

I will try downloading the first game one of these days and see if I have any issues with it. I know I did not have any problems when I played it more than 11 years ago, but that was a long time ago.

I'll be interested to hear if you try it.

I admit to being a slow reader but in this case, it had nothing to do with my slow reading. smile

I just finished a replay of House of 1000 Doors: The Serpent Flame, a game I first played in 2014. It is on my Top 20 List and will probably never be kicked off that list by any of the simple games that BF puts out now. Serpent Flame is a superb game in every respect. Fantastic artwork, for one. Innovative and challenging mini-games, for another. The characters don't do stupid things to advance the plot. Very creative use of Inventory. Epic in scale. Decent Map included, but I still drew my own so I could annotate it with info about tasks to be completed and Inventory need for them. My only quibble with the game is that objects in the HO scenes are very small to my aging eyes.

There are three additional games in this series, but the fourth, The Evil Inside, was dreadful. They phoned it in, complete with the cackling evil witch cliché. I didn't buy it, didn't even finish playing the Demo, it was so bad. Stick with the first three games in the series. They are stellar, and perfect for replay.

Reenie, I love Serpent Flame and have played it a couple of times.

As for The Evil Inside, I know some people who really liked the game, even loved it. I have it in my Purchase History but haven't tried it yet. I believe the developer was Logris Games. I do plan to play it at some point and will see what I think of it.

I have all 4 games (the first 3 on disc as well as download) but still have never played them. I didn't know they were 5BN. Of course I don't know who puts most of the games out. I have so many already on my *bumped to the front list* that I don't know if I can squeeze these in but I'm going to try. smile

I'm currently playing Hidden Expedition 9: Dawn of Prosperity. It's pretty good.

Oldbroad, I just downloaded Shaolin Mystery: Tale of the Jade Dragon Staff and it runs just fine on my Windows 7 computer.

I am replaying Timeless: The Lost Castle. It has been a few years, and I had forgotten how large and elaborate the game was. I am enjoying the exploring, the wide variety of puzzles and tasks to be solved and the creativity of the designers in coming up with so many original ideas. I don't know when the game originally was issued, but it predates all that candy-apple color and purple smoke that became the bane of Casuals a few years ago. This game is naturalistic and more like a wonderful old Adventure game than an HOA. You definitely need to take notes and keep a map going, because you go back and forth from various sites, unlike the modern HOs that have you enter a scene, do the tasks within it, and then leave without another thought.

There are a few HO scenes scattered throughout, but most of the stuff you acquire and use is what you find or earn. There are some unique ideas (like having a separate "Combine" function for various parts you find), a scanning function to find hidden information in a scene and some very original puzzles. Everything is suited to the genre of the game, so you don't encounter bizarre objects that don't belong and you use no tools or inventory that aren't natural to the milieu.

I definitely will replay this game, after I have forgotten it all once more. smile
