I have been thinking of cutting back my hydrangeas and my clematis. it needs to be done this spring. but, it is still too cold. Iwill wait until it is at least 60 outside. I asked hubby to do it today and he said it was too cold for him. I see the neighbors doing their yard work and i don't want to be the only one not doing my part. argh. please, god, give me warm weather.

Warm! Finally! Got two perennial beds cleaned up. Just eight more to go! Also took a long walk down in the woods... will need to do a thorough tick check tonight!

Well, the Rufous Hummingbirds have arrived.

We have a feeder on our back balcony. Dude caught one, probably his first ever bird. He came rushing in through the flap, calling out the good news that he had captured dinner. We confiscated it, much to his disappointment.

Two hours later, he came in with another one.

We no longer have a feeder on our back balcony.

I have a cat who can leap up and catch them out of the air. She lurks under the lilac bushes where they hang out. Fortunately, she usually brings them to me unharmed and I am able let them go.

Willow always catches one each year, but she's fat and lazy and not overly motivated these days. Dude is like a little racehorse, and this is all new to him, so he's totally focused. We have another feeder on our front deck, too, but there are no perching trees nearby so there's less chance of him catching one there.

I'll have a cup of that Jack Daniels Coffee, soot! I'm excited to see my first hummingbird this morning! The migration is moving through... these first one will be travelers. My resident population will show up later. Supposed to have severe thunderstorms with hail, wind and potential tonados this afternoon. Need to move some stuff and get my truck in the garage!

Thunderstorms are starting here right now. Supposed to get very windy later or tomorrow also. I think the worst of this stuff is supposed to stay south of where I am though.
