I enjoyed the recent Stephen King book Later on LadyK's recommendation: very reminiscent of some of Dean Koontz's better work rather than being typical of Stephen King, but none the worse for that (speaking as someone who is not a great King fan).

I am now revisiting a couple of older thriller writers whose books I had not read for some years Lawrence Block and John D MacDonald.

On the science fiction front I may also delve into the recently published third book in the New Eden series by emerging author Kishore Tipirneni having rather enjoyed the first two: he is an interesting character being an accomplished doctor and IT expert now trying his hand at becoming an author!

I'm reading a book that is decades old called "The Andromeda Strain" by Michael Crichton. Although it can be quite technical, it's a pretty good story for it's time.

Michael Crichton had a way of making anything understandable and easy to read. I read all of his books and liked them all but the one I think I liked the most was The Great Train Robbery.

After two years I am still not finished reading The Client, but I only have about 40 pages left so one more sitting ought to do it.

Yes, you must be finding the book quite enthralling.

One of my treasured possessions is a letter I received from Michael Crichton, after I wrote to him concerning the Chaos Theory discussed in Jurassic Park. I got a handwritten reply from him saying that my letter was very interesting.

The book is fine; I just have trouble sitting down to read these days. I will however, see if the next book goes better/quicker.

It's bad lighting, bad eyes, and time getting away from me. I finally found the best place for me to sit and read these days. I pull a kitchen chair to a lamp so the lamp is behind and above me and I put my feet up on an ottoman. Works pretty well, but everyday I get up and say I'm going to do this, that, and the other thing, but by the time I finish this, it's too late for that and the other thing.

You obviously need a headlamp, or possibly a kindle with a bright light attached to the cover, oldbroad!

My problem is likely to be getting up from the floor where I have been lying to read, or falling asleep there...

I'm having fun re-reading the Harry Potter series. Since I read them originally as they were published, I had forgotten the chronology of some of the main events and many of the little details. They are well-thumbed books because my husband, who read mostly non-fiction, went through them all several times and used to hold his own in trivia discussions with a couple of the pre-teen readers we knew.

Sounds like me. I manage to do what I absolutely have to do, but the rest sort of slips away from me.

My eyesight is pretty bad now. I'm long-sighted so, close up is very difficult even with glasses. That's why I love my Kindle. I can make the font as large as I want.

I really did like how I could change the text size and color with my Kindle but I find that I just love having the book in my hands more even though I do struggle with small print at times. I also enjoy looking at the books in my bookshelf after I finish. The book also allows me to lend it to someone else after I am finished.

Kingdom of bones by James Rollins (one of my favorite authors, I've read everything he wrote. All totally action packed with historical/scientific backgrounds.

I love actual books too, and I find my reading comprehension is better with a physical book. However, I just have no room for books any more. In fact, I have to get rid of most of them because there are just too many cluttering up the basement. I'll keep my favourites, but the rest have to go.

I am currently enjoying The Absolute Book by Elizabeth Knox, and I plan to follow up with The Golem And The Djinni by Helene Wecker.

Has anyone else tried either of these?

Thank you for reminding me about The Absolute Book, Lex, which I already own. I've put it at the top of the pile to read as soon as I finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I haven't read any Helene Wecker yet.

Hagatha, glad you are enjoying John Hart, and LadyK The Absolute Book is magical in several meanings of the word: a wonderful read taking threads from a host of myths/legends and weaving them together in a thought-provoking and uplifting tale.

I'm enjoying The Absolute Book very much so far, Lex. I'm nearing the end of Part 3, and I like the way the author, at the beginning, let me glimpse a bit of the whole without explanation before adding more clarity to it later.

I finished The Absolute Book by Elizabeth Knox and can say it was one of the most unique fantasies I've ever read. It's complex but compelling, and the ending was quite unexpected. It draws from myths and legends but with a modern twist. I highly recommend it.
