Well my computer finally decided to give up. A few weeks ago it decided it was too tired and would not start up. My nephew came over and messed with it. Turns out the motherboard was going. He was able to get it going but we knew we had to do something. He ordered parts had to replace everything except power supply and sound card. We pulled off the data and he rebuilt… I stayed with windows 10. Just not ready yet. He brought it back and we got everything back on. I’m good to go for now😁.

Yup, I had to do that about 3 years ago and did a rebuild. While I was at it, I got a new 1 TB SSD - not big enough! - and cloned my OS and data on the old HDD. Glad you're back up and running!

Sounds good Winfrey! I envy all of you who know how to do this stuff yourself or know somebody else who does. I've bought whole new computers when a simple part probably would have done the trick. crazy

I totally get it, oldbroad. A friend was having issues and it turned out she needed a new CPU - the little postage stamp processor that runs everything. I got her one for $56, took out the old one, installed it and it only cost her the $56 plus a bottle of wine!

Yes. But I'm literally heading out the door for league bowling! I'll be back in a few hours.

You just be able to use Save As and specify.

That is not working. The program is Quicken and it doesn’t allow you to change it just saves. It must be the way my nephew loaded the programs in the computer ???

Ah, so it's a specific program that's doing it. That's different. So, do you have more than one user on this PC? It sounds more like it's how he set up your Operating System. Did he clone your old drive or did he install a new Windows 10 and then restore all the data?

Try opening up your C drive and see how everything is listed there. Under my "User" is Jeannine. But my downloads path is This PC/Downloads. Open up your Downloads file and see what the path is. There is probably a setting in Quicken to change your save path, but I don't know for sure.

I'm probably not making sense.

He put a new windows 10 and put reloaded the files. Yes Carol uses it for quicken and taxes. Documents and downloads show in both pc and user. EDIT. ….. ok I researched an it says I can change the path in quicken. BUT. I just remembered why it looks different. The computer when I first got it was called pc and Drew named the computer Pamela. So….. I just told Carol to get usd to the path as everything is going to relate to the computer name. ….. thanks for your support.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you this morning! Had a minor disaster on the way to bowling last night. I hit something large and metal on the highway just in town and had to park my poor truck at the Casey's gas station overnight! Whatever it was slashed my right rear tire and I had to have it towed this morning. When I was telling the clerk at Casey's I had to leave my truck a woman came in and said she had hit it too. She pulled in to see if she had any damage because it sounded like it tore her car apart! While we were waiting for the tow this morning, we saw them put up a barricade and lights and move the piece to the side of the highway. We looked at it on the way home and it was about 2 - 3 feet across and crumpled metal. It appears that several other cars hit it. Told my friend Kim who picked me up for bowling I didn't have to worry about someone breaking in overnight and trying to steal it.... no one today can drive a stick shift!

I was going to tell you that if he installed a new Windows 10, this would be how he named it during the installation. It is possible to change the name of the computer if you want to. Let me know and I'll post instructions. It's pretty easy.

Oh my heavens!!!! Hope it’s not even more damage done… who the heck left it on the road!!!! I saw how to rename the computer. I am not going to mess with it. I’m having to tweak a few things. Wouldn’t let me open Peters puzzles. Had to go into security and change a smart page to give me the option to look at it lol….

Yes, old stuff like Peter's puzzles need extra steps to open up.

I'm having them put it up on a rack to make sure there was no damage done. At least there weren't any puddles under it this morning! Given the looks of the thing, I'm going to guess it fell off a metal recycling hauler. All the ones I've seen have their loads pretty loosely secured.
