Can somebody please confirm if there is an update required. Usually Firefox just updates itself but today there was a popup type message (right in the area on Gameboomers homepage where the Forum button is and I had to dismiss the popup to click the Forum button). Yesterday there was a ribbon bar on my Firefox saying something (don't remember what) about not being able to use the internet? I don't know. The internet was fine and I just closed the bar.

Different stuff makes me nervous.

Well, I wanted to post my Firefox version but cannot find it, however, when I click the menu button it shows there that an update is available. I still don't want to do it until I hear from somebody here.

Thanks.

After I read your post, I looked for my version of Firefox and it was telling me that an update was available. I just did the update, and now it says version 113.0.1. The previous version was 112.0.2.

Thank you Marian! I guess I will give it a go then. Is this new to you also, that it shows like that?

In the past (as best I can recall), Firefox would just update automatically without consulting me, so this seems different to me, yes.

My Firefox updates itself - and I usually get a little message saying "You now have the latest version" smile

Right .... And thank you !!

[I just checked and I already have version 113.0.1. but I didn't have to do anything to get it - so maybe something will happen when the next version becomes available ??]

Your Firefox version is found by clicking on the Help button and then on About. I needed an update, but didn't get any popup or any ribbon. It just updated when I started it. I would be a tad wary too. But do make sure you have 113.0.1.

I never put any applications on automatic install, I always choose something like "You have a new version or update, do you wish to install it?" I always like to be in control of what goes on my machine, just paranoid I guess.

I have never put Firefox on automatic install - I just thought this was the way it was. I will have to see if there is an option such that it will not automatically update by default. I never thought about this before.

I have never “selected” auto update for Firefox in fact I don’t recall even ever having been given such an option whistle

Same here, Mad. As Starcom was saying, I prefer to exercise control with software programs/web browsers whenever I am given the option.

Ditto Mad and Marian. Mine always just updated and I've never seen an option for it not to do that.

Hi, if you go to Tools, Settings, General Tab and Scroll way down you should see these lines:

Allow Firefox to
Automatically install updates (recommended)
When Firefox is not running
Check for updates but let you choose to install them

The one in Bold is the one I choose.

Yup... that the same selection I have! Must have done it long ago as I no longer use Firefox.

That choice that Starcom uses has been there for years.

I don't doubt you. I just don't recall ever seeing it but I probably did and figured it was in my best interest to let it do the updates automatically. Today it did not do it automatically and that's why I questioned it.

Yup Uncle Reg it has been there a long time, I am surprised I remembered where to find it as just like Draclvr I no longer use Firefox, I keep it as a backup, I use Waterfox and loving it.

Never heard of Waterfox but then, I'm sure there are a lot of browsers I've never heard of. wink

Thank you for the info about Firefox, Starcom! I just changed the setting and it's very good to know that Firefox does have this option. Much appreciated. yes

My son has Waterfox as a backup and he thinks it's great.

Thanks Marian and the one big thing that stands out for me regarding Waterfox is the Bookmarks, they still use the No space between folders and this is a feature I miss with Firefox and Edge since I have a lot of Bookmarks and I do not have to Scroll and Scroll to go through my list of Bookmarks. Probably those who have Monitors with say 22 inches and up do not notice it because they more screen space, but with a
15 inch Laptop, space is not luxury, I hope that makes sense.

And a Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers out there.
