After poking aseveral holes in his umbrella with the antenna, dropping his jacket in a big puddle, and shorting out his ear buds and phone, Marty grumbled, "I wish I had an extra set of arms to carry all this stuff!" Suddenly, with a small poof sound, he ended up with a second set of arms. It turns out the knick-knack he had picked up at a garage sale earlier that day was really an ancient magical artifact that could grant its owner a wish.
After the initial shock, Marty went home. After her initial surprise at his changed anatomy, his mom scolded him for dripping all over her clean floor and for ruining his best jacket, her umbrella, and the electronics because he forgot his tote bag again. His punishment was to wash and dry the supper dishes, but once he got the hang of using all his arms, the task went twice as fast as it usually did. He ended up helping his mom do much needed renovations around the house, and she sewed him new shirts with extra large sleeves.
As time passed, Marty found it was an advantage to have four arms in gymnastics. He won several trophies on the parallel bars and pommel horse and was training for the Olympics. Unfortunately, the day of his final qualifying round was exactly a year after he had purchased the artifact. He was doing a complicated move on the parallel bars when the warranty expired, the magic disappeared, and Marty couldn't catch himself with just one set of arms. He was in traction for two months until his broken bones healed. His mother took care of him, but she also reminded him that all this wouldn't have happened if he had just remembered to carry that tote bag.
