Good Saturday morning! Holy smokes, did we get rain yesterday! It had started raining when we went in town to get something to eat. But the time we got there 15 minutes later, it was pouring. We got a little over 2 inches of rain in just under an hour. There was flash flooding all over town. Several rural driveways had washed out on the way home. Luckily ours was intact - just some gravel washed out on the road.

Who knows when I'll be able to get into the tomatoes. I was so close to being done with all the weeding so the guy can come spread mulch.

It's a chilly morning here...in the 50s! It will only reach low 60s with clouds today so it will be a lovely day for a nice long walk.

Hubby likes to grill on Father's Day, so I think he's going to do a couple of "Beer in the Rear" whole chickens. You open a beer and drink half of it. Then you add garlic and other seasonings to the remaining beer and put it in the cavity of the chicken. They make special stands to keep the chickens upright. Then onto a grill on indirect heat they go!

The young man who is working his tail off to earn money this summer with his parent's help came by yesterday to give me a bid on the massive amount of work I need done outside! I have done all this work myself for many years spreading tons of mulch and resetting edger stones. I just can't do it any more, so am more than happy to help this young man out. His mom is helping him with the job bidding, but otherwise they are letting him run with it. We were talking with his dad while he was taking pictures of everything and how bidding is an art that is usually learned by making a few mistakes of underbidding. He hopes to get to me by the end of next week. I love seeing young people working hard to earn money.

I had to wait to have all this done until the chickens were gone. They destroy my hundreds of plants and scratch the mulch everywhere not to mention places we walk and sit being knee deep in chicken poop. I have fought them for 15 years and was so relieved when hubby decided to get rid of them. They went to a neighbor girl and I think quite a few of them are going to be made into pets!

Soot have a safe trip home today...sounds like you had a wonderful visit! Draclvr I too have to hire someone to fix my paved brick paths and my brick front porch. My neighbor gave me the name of the fellow that did hers and he did a great job...just waiting for an estimate.

Finally broke down and turned on the AC yesterday. It's not that hot - in the mid to upper 80's, but it's so humid it feels like you're breathing underwater outside! At least the pool is finally ready to go.

Was finally able to get into the tomatoes and make sure they are inside their cages. They are already almost 4 feet tall and covered in blooms!

Heading in town shortly to take care of my friend's kitties while they are away on a cruise with family.

I'm off to the vet with Willow this morning for a blood test. Because she's so chunky we're watching her for signs of diabetes. I've tried putting her on a diet but that always results in her banging and howling at my door at 4 am and eventually I'm too tired to go on with it. Fortunately, she is on a high-protein wet food so she's not getting a lot of carbs, and I've noticed that she's much more active and playful since I allowed her to be free-range.

It's a rather gloomy day, cool enough to tackle some outdoor chores like clean out my organics bin, which is a bit stinky from the heat.

Good evening everyone. I wasn't feeling too well earlier and sort of napped because I felt so tired but that just made it worse. Then I decided it was time to turn the Air Conditioner on and that seemed to help some.

Got another bed weeded yesterday. One small one and one big one left before the young man gets here to spread mulch. Since I can't bend over, I sit on a little garden kneeler bench and use a nifty tool with a short handle - it has a hatchet on one end and a 3 pronged fork on the other.

Hope to hear good news about Willow, hagatha. Sure hope you are feeling better, oldbroad. I broke down and turned our AC on yesterday. Hubby and I were talking about how we grew up when no one had AC.
