Happy, gloomy, Sunday! We had about 1-1/2" of rain here. It is stopping now but not clearing up yet.

I was bit on the hand by something two nights ago while I slept. It left a bump near my knuckle and it just won't stop itching.

Connie, I hope the visit shows improvement with Lynda.

Drac, I'm glad you had a nice time.

Soot, have a nice time dog sitting. I'm with you wondering how Lex and Linda are doing.

Gerry, at least you enjoy getting out every day. I'm a hermit here in the city.

Have a good day everyone!

Good morning everyone.

I was supposed to be going out for lunch today with a friend, but she's cancelled due to a sore back. That being the case, I'll get on with some garage tidying. I'm having some built-in shelving put in my office, so I have to start moving things out of there and I need some room in the garage to stash things for a while.

Oldbroad, that sounds like it might be a spider bite. They itch like crazy. I once has a spider bite on my chest that ended up being a raised welt for several months.

Fogfighter, I haven't seen the Aurora Borealis for many years. When I was a child we would sometimes see them up at the cottage on Georgian Bay. Forty years ago, in Vancouver, the Northern lights appeared over the North Shore for about 45 minutes. They were very intense and bright and you could hear a faint crackling. It was an astonishing sight. But that was before all the light pollution. These days you really have to go north to see them.

I suspect you are right, hagatha. I do have a lot of spiders (and webs) in my house.

Afternoon folks; well it's a "balmy" 38f here today with light drizzle. A good day to stay indoors. Making a chicken pie with peas, carrots &celery. Have a great day & stay safe out there.

Yikes, judith! That balmy 38 F sounds like a fireplace and tea kind of day!

Spiders are why I do my best to keep my house uncluttered as much as possible. I'm no super house keeper, but we have brown recluse spiders here and I don't want to encounter any of them. I was bitten once when we were rehabbing the first farmhouse and it was full of them. I've never been in so much pain in my life including natural childbirth! Luckily, I didn't have any permanent damage, but it was really ugly. We also have the house professionally sprayed twice a year to keep the bug population down as other bugs are what attract the brown recluse spiders.

I generally like spiders but brown recluse spiders are nasty things. We don't have those here, but we do have Western Black Widows, and they are poisonous.

Oldbroad, I'm glad your meal turned out well. I sometimes surprise myself, too. I was once a very good cook, back in the day, but once John got sick I kind of lost it. I still have many of my old cookbooks, cuisines from all around the world.

I have cookbooks all over the house. I have 3 book cases full and then piles of them in various places because I don't have any more shelf space. I've been trying to look through them but I usually just end up finding recipes on the internet now, which is sad because I really used to love going through the books.

Good morning everyone!

5 Celsius, sky is blue. Mrs Sun is shining and the Coffee is black.
It turned out Microsoft offers an extra year of free Win 10 upgrades for EU users.
So one more year of internet access with that old PC. Then legacy sofware without internet.

Happy Monday GameBoomers!

Good Monday morning. VERY chilly this morning - 44 degrees F. But nice and sunny and so fresh after that rain Saturday. We ended up with 2.6 inches. Dragging hoses today, but just to bring them inside to put away for the winter.

We had a bunch of volunteer tomato plants grow on the side of the driveway where I hose it off after canning tomatoes. We picked about 6 giant ripe ones yesterday. I should have taken a picture of the one we ate last night - I weighed it and it was right at 2 pounds! We had a last hurrah of BLT's for supper last night. Just one slice covered the entire piece of bread!

I finally went through all my old cook books and donated the vast majority of them. I kept the ones I actually use like my old Betty Crocker cookbook and a couple from church ladies up in Iowa. One is full of Norwegian recipes. One of my favorites that I still use a lot is like reading a novel. It is called The Feast of Santa Fe and is full of authentic southwest cooking. Some really interesting meals in there. Like you, oldbroad, I used to love going through them, but now I just look them up on line. Glad your stir fry turned out good - now will you remember just how you did it so you can make it again?!

Connie, that is such good news about your friend.

Good morning everyone,

The only thing on the menu this morning is a visit from the Vet Tech to clip Willow's claws. Fortunately I don't have to go anywhere today -- I've been feeling a bit under the weather lately. Not really sure what's going on; I just feel drained of energy.

I had some cookbooks that were absolute treasures as they came from my father's collection -- he was a wonderful cook. Sadly, they were all yellowed and falling apart and I had to discard some of them. Many of them are still in print, but given how little I cook it's probably not worth replacing them.

Good morning Hagatha, Draclvr Mad Connie Fogfighter Gerry OldBroad Judith and all who follow. We have daddy long leg spiders to help with bug control but don't allow black widow and brown recluse in or around the house. We only got 1 inch of rain and are thankful for that...and hoping for more next week. We have a bookshelf of cook books but not used anymore given diet restrictions. Great news on Lynda and hope Lex and his Linda are on the mend. Fall has finally fallen here with cooler morning temps which are nice for the walks. We're off to the dentist for routine cleaning visit.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Monday wave

Happy Monday everyone!

Fogfighter, I also enrolled in the extra year of free Win 10 updates.

Gerry, did you miss your walk then because of the rain?

Connie, good news about your friend.

Hagatha, I hope your health issues pack up and go away. I'm pretty sure there are cookbooks here that belonged to my mother, in a box in her closet. I have one page from one of her books sitting on one of my shelves. It is old, faded, dirty, and tattered. It has the best fudge recipe on it but I haven't used it for years. I'm too lazy to make fudge these days even though I love it. Better in this case probably that I am lazy.

I hope you each enjoy your day!

Good Morning Fogfighter, connie, Mad, Draclvr, hagatha, soot, oldbroad and everyone. Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! wave

Connie glad to hear Lynda is doing well. Mad I also have my grade school cook book from 1952...I still use some of the basic recipes in it too! My old stand by is my original Betty Crocker Cook Book...gave away all the others. smile

Oldbroad the rain stopped long enough late morning to get in a nice walk. The trees are beautiful with fall colors...makes for a lovely walk in the countryside.

Soot I too hope Lex and Linda are doing well...keeping them both in my prayers.

Hope you all have a great day! hug

Good morning everyone!

I hear you on the light pollution Hagatha. Night skygazing isn't what it used to be. And for the borealis you sure need to go way up north. And be lucky.
Amazing sight though.

Congrats to the extra Win10 year Oldbroad, and other enrollers. Nice to have some more time.

And over here cloudy and 9 celsius.

Happy Tuesday GameBoomers!

Good morning Connie Fogfighter Gerry OldBroad Hagatha Draclvr and all who follow. Light pollution does make star gazing problematic. We've driven a few miles out to farmland to get away from lights. The best viewing spot for me was camping in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado along the continental divide. The night sky was incredible ✨️ You all have some awesome cook books! Time for another cup of WADDB and bagel.

Have a great day wave

Good Tuesday morning. Leaving shortly for my annual medical checkup and bloodwork. I am drinking only about half a cup of WADDB before I leave.

Last year we had a bunch of nights we could see the aurora borealis down here in the middle of the US! Since I live out in the country, I have almost no light pollution. In fact when I'm doing the night closing at the Ranch at 10:00, it's so dark you can't see anything at the lower barns! But on a clear night, the star viewing is amazing.

I got that one year extension for Windows 10 too - still thanking oldbroad for that as I didn't know about it! It's going to be tricky for me as the software we use here at GB for the website doesn't work with Windows 11... it hasn't been supported since 2004! Not sure how I'm going to work that out.

Good Morning everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready! wave

Its raining here this morning, but should be stopping around 10am so I will be able to get in my walk today. I have a weather station in the backyard that was having issues giving me rain totals so I spent 2 hours yesterday afternoon on a ladder trying to clean the clogged gauge inside the unit...not an easy task...it seems to be working now as I can see on the display in the house it is showing the rain amount. I still will need to clean the other "sensors" once I read up on how to do it...all these little parts to clean!

Have a great Hump Day! blackkitty

Hello everyone!

10 Celsius and raining. I hope the garlic approves.

I stumbled upon a puzzle site that's pretty cool. Apparently it's intended to being challenging for the Artificial intelligences and easier for humans.
A new challenge every day. Some are very very easy and some a bit more challenging. Here a link in case you want to try. Playable in the web browser.
