Good Tuesday morning. Chilly start to what promises to be nice warm sunny day. Unfortunately, for us this brings out the cursed Asian Lady Beetles. They are horrid creatures and fly everywhere, get in the house and stink to high heaven. They are an invasive species.
Connie, I am so sorry to hear this about Lynda. I know when my hubby came home from his knee surgery they told us to pick up all rugs. She was doing so well too. Wishing her surgery goes well.
Grocery run today. And while I'm in town, I'm wiring money to my step-daughter in New York. Their dad's retirement fund has a tidy sum in it since he passed in 1997. I am old enough that I have to take the RMD - required minimum distribution - every year. I split it 3 ways and give it to his daughters.

Good Morning everyone! Wide awake Double dark Brew is ready. Connie so sorry to hear about Lynda...sending healing thoughts and prayers. Draclvr my mom use to make homemade noodle to put in her chicken soup...I loved that soup! We've been having wind advisories the last couple days and later today we are expecting 50mpr gusts! I have to be careful walking by the state forest where there are lots of dead trees close to the road that could get blown down. There have been several that have come down in the last month across the road blocking both direction. Enjoy your Hump Day! Gerry

Good Wednesday morning. Another sunny warmish day today... glorious fall weather.
I got busy this morning bottling up my last batch of hot sauce... got 9 more bottles. That should keep the Colorado grandkids happy!
De-cluttering is on the menu for today. Once all the summer stuff is done, I REALLY need to tackle my house. I got one closet done and it looks like the loaves and fishes in one of the spare bedrooms. How did I get so much junk in that closet! Most is going into the trash, but a bunch will go to Good Will. I have a TON of yarn that I need to figure out what to do with too. I'm toying having someone come in and do a deep clean once it no longer looks like I'm a hoarder because there are so many things I can't get to because I can't get down on my hands and knees any more.

Oldbroad, I can see doing a sell as-is and going somewhere without so many headaches which are only going to get worse. A nice duplex with you on one side and your brother on the other would be perfect. I'm already there with this old farmhouse. I've been here 33 years and am so ready for something without all the old house problems.

Three problems with that though, Drac. 1. $$$ 2. We're in a good area and you never know what you might run into at the next place. 3. $$$
And, how could I forget, the unearthing of 5 beloved pets after we leave here.

Hi everyone; I love Wednesdays because that my evening for TV, I start at 6pm with Survivor & then Amazing Race, & then my three favorites Chicago Med, Fire & PD. It's 30f here right now but we are supposed to get wet snow starting around 6pm & not stopping until tomorrow night. Take care of yourselves out there & avoid accidents because spare parts for old models like some of us are no longer in stock.:)

It's all a big money grab. Make everything obsolete so people have to spend money. In the past, things were made to last; now they aren't.
The appliance repair guy called back and said he cannot do anything with our stove.
And now I'm being told by AT&T that I MUST upgrade or I will lose service on Jan 5th. Before they were pushing it but it was still just an option.

I had an old stove that had outlived its ability to be used with modern gas service too. But then it was over 25 years old. It was still working just fine, that wasn't the problem. It just wasn't compatible with improved safety protocols. I was actually glad to get rid of it and upgrade to something that is safe.
What service is AT&T telling you you must upgrade to?

Hi all,
Not much happening around here. The weather is awful; heavy rain with no end in sight. Great weather for fireplace and gaming.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good Morning Fogfighter and everyone! Wide Awake Double Dark Brew is ready. Oldbroad I too still have a landline...only ATT sold to Frontier so I am dealing with Frontier now. For the last 5 years Frontier keeps telling me they no longer will support my service that comes on copper cable...the issue for me is they ran the fiber optic cable but stopped less than a mile from my neighborhood. My street is literally at the end of the line and unless they run the fiber optic cable down my street I can not switch. Frontier keeps threatening me that they are going to start charging me to maintain their copper cable as they no longer support it. I keep calling them and reminding them they need to run the fiber optic down my street in order for me to switch! I agree with you all about maintaining an old house. We built our home 56 years ago and there is always something to fix or leaks to repair...gutters to replace...the list goes on! Hope you all enjoy your day! Gerry

Good morning everyone. The week is zippinVoIPg past us and the weekend is just around the corner. We still have a landline too with spectrum, but it's a fiber line not copper. Wishing you all a great day!

Oldbroad, I have a smart fridge, which I bought a couple of years ago. I just never bothered to connect it. You don't have to. But as to your point about planned obsolescence; I recently realized that any liquid I put on the top shelf freezes because the internal thermometer is not functioning properly. I'll have to have it repaired.

Good Thursday morning. I had to get rid of our landline about 10 years ago. It was utterly useless because I couldn't stop the telemarketers. I tried everything, but wading through at least 15 telemarketer calls to get to one I wanted was ridiculous. I actually wore out TWO answering machines trying to deal with them. I finally gave up and we both went to cell phones. It's been sheer heaven for us. We can actually get messages and calls from our doctors straight away. He loves playing with Google Maps on his. We get maybe one telemarketer call every couple of days, but I immediately block and delete, so they are few and far between.
I have a newish stove - about 5 years - and I cannot love it enough. It has nothing "smart" on it and just works SO much better than my old ancient one. My refrigerator is also newish - about 10 years - and I also love it. I did get a nice big one because I cook so much and we live on leftovers during the week. Nothing "smart" about it either! They do have more safety features than the old ones, but I'm OK with that. With gas, I want as much safety as possible. At some point, the manufacturers just stop making replacement parts for that old stuff. I'd say you got your money out of the old one after 40 years, oldbroad!

Happy Thursday everyone. Hagatha, that is too new for you to be having problems in my opinion! My freezer no longer works and my fridge is not great but, as stated, it is at least 40 years old so it is understandable. Didn't you have a problem with it when you first bought it also? Or was that just a sizing/fitting issue? I love my land line! The phone I have now blocks all of those telemarketer calls automatically. They used to drive me buggy too. Now, I get them on my cell phone. I have blocked over a hundred numbers but they just pick a new one and try again so it's not really worth bothering. They also send me text messages. Nobody can leave me voice messages on my cell phone because I never figured out how to set voice mail up. I rarely use a phone but prefer the land line for certain calls. I just trust it more. AT&T will still give me phone service but different, not with the copper wires. Maybe that is fiber also like soot has. I don't know. Gerry, what does Frontier expect you to do if they don't offer you another service? That is just wrong! (I didn't realize the word I used above was a "blip" word. It started with a C and was spelled similar to a fish.) All the appliances came with the house. We moved here 30 years ago but the prior owner had purchase dates written on all the pamphlets. The stove in our old house was similar to this https://www.antiqueappliances.com/product/1927-eriez-gas-stove/ and it was great! It is not just appliances though Drac. They don't make parts for some of my plumbing and I have some major plumbing issues here. I cannot re-do all of my plumbing at this time. My electricity also needs re-doing because of these darn new light bulbs. It's just too much! My brother and I each have our separate issues with these things and agree somewhat but not totally about them, so that also makes things more difficult to deal with here. In all honesty, we are just not good at home ownership. Anyway, I cut up my ingredients yesterday but never got around to the cooking part so I will have to do that today. I will also bury my head in the sand again today by playing games and pretending all is well in my life as I do everyday. Enjoy your day everyone!
