Judith, I love McCammon's books. Lots of good reading.

I'm still working my way through The Wheel of Time. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did last time I read it. Jordan was a good writer. I suspect that last time I read the books I was skim-reading, speed-reading, which I often did when I was still working. Since I retired I've slowed down my reading, and it makes a difference.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I finished Scalzi's The Human Division and The End of All Things and hope to get the 7th in the series very soon. In the meantime, I'm reading The Personals: The Human Stories Behind the Small Ads by Brian O'Connell.

Right now my dream job would be driving a Zamboni over ice.

I started Dust and Shadow, a Jack the Ripper Sherlock Holmes book. I have only read the prologue so far.

I finished The Shattering Peace last night. It did not disappoint in any way. I wonder if Scalzi intends this one to end the series. It would be appropriate, but I could hope for more. In the meantime, there are more of his books I haven't read yet and other authors' stories crying for my attention. Life is good!

I am reading Thinner by Richard Bachman/Stephen King. The last time I read it was about 40 years ago so it's like a new book for me.

I had to look "Thinner" up as I never heard of it. Sounds interesting!

Marian, I remember it being pretty creepy, but it's been that long since I read it too. Need to see if I still have it somewhere.

I finished Making the Best of What's Left: When We're Too Old to Get the Chairs Reupholstered by Judith Viorst. I've read a couple of her funny "decade" books over the years, and although I'm still (only) in my 7th decade, I enjoyed her writing as she's navigating her 9th.

Right now I'm ensconced in Alliance Rising by C. J. Cherryh and Jane S. Fancher. It has been a long time since I read Downbelow Station, Cyteen, and the other books in the Alliance-Union universe, but this book has reminded me that It's time to reread them.

I'm finally past the logjam of the fourth, fifth and sixth books in the WOT series, and am back to really enjoying it now that the story is moving along again. Jordan sure did like to make much ado about nothing for hundreds of pages.

Just started Cell by Robin Cook, I love his medial thrillers.

I finished Alliance Unbound, the second book in the Cherryh/Fancher series. About halfway through the book, I knew they weren't going to make it a duology, which means I have to wait for the next one to be published. The ongoing story is very good, and I really want to find out what happens next.

Right now I'm reading a captivating story called A Short Walk Through a Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke. It's one that I don't want to put down. Telling myself "just one more chapter" isn't working at all.

LadyKestrel, I love those Alliance books and am eagerly waiting for the next one. Jane Fancher is quite a good writer and I hope she's able to finish the Foreigner series if CJ Cherryh can't.

I think it might have been you who alerted me to them a while back, Hagatha, and they're a welcome addition to my collection. I also hope the Foreigner series gets finished. After all these years, I couldn't bear not knowing what happens to those characters I care about so much.

Totally absorbed by the Expanse series of books, currently on volume 6: waiting to watch the rest of the TV series once I have read all the books, and before moving on to the many other books on my list...

I just started 16th Seduction (a Women's Murder Club book) by James Patterson. These books are always a quick, easy read so I thought it a good one to try out my new Tablet with Nook Book app.

Amazon has The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood on for $1.99, I just bought it for my kindle fire.

I started The Affair by Lee Child today in paperback. It is the Jack Reacher series #16, I believe. I still have some physical books to read but I really like my Nook Book tablet. I didn't think I would. But, the newer Dean Koontz books (2020 to current) that I was hoping to buy don't seem to be available as e-books, unfortunately.

Ob, Amazon now has exclusive publishing rights to Dean Koontz and has had for several years now. That is why you won't see e-books for his newer stuff anywhere apart from Amazon.

I started Dean Koontz's book Devoted a few days ago and so far it is certainly keeping my interest.

I guess I won't be reading any more Dean Koontz then. frown Thanks for that information, Marian!

I have been buying the trade paperbacks of his books when they are released on Amazon.

I heard him speaking in an interview of how much he was enjoying this partnership with Amazon, one which he says has given him more creative freedom than ever to write what he wishes to write. He had many other offers but he chose Amazon for this and other reasons. He is very happy with Thomas & Mercer (Amazon's publishing house).

Un Lun Dun by China Miéville turned out to be a fun fantasy with likable characters and a nice twisty plot. It's written with a teenage protagonist but has the author's quirky style that appeals to the more mature reader who hasn't been a teen in nearly 6 decades. I recommend it!

I also finished the latest Louise Penny mystery, The Black Wolf. I have to say that unlike her previous Gamache novels, this one hit too close to home. She began the book more than 2 years ago, but current events caught up with it. I'm not saying it wasn't a good mystery. It's just that lately I find I need more escape from reality when I'm reading fiction.

Right now I'm reading Christmas Crimes at the Mysterious Bookshop, edited by Otto Penzler. For most of its 45-year history, this real bookstore in New York City commissioned an original short story as a holiiday gift for its customers. It was written only for the store and never published elsewhere before now. The 3 requirements for the story are that it be set at Christmastime, that it involve a crime of some sort or the suspicion of one, and that it be set at least partially in the bookstore. The stories are written by celebrated crime fiction authors, including Jeffery Deaver, Lndsay Faye, Ragner Jónasson, and Laura Lippman. They're very diverse and enjoyable mystery bites. I just started the 4th story called "Secret Santa" by Ace Atkins.

Next on my list is We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor. This is a new author for me, but it sounds like one I will like.
