Thanks, Marian.
I really like the Gothic series and so am considering going for this version .. but itโ€™s rather pricey ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Yes, it sure is rather pricey. I will be reading reviews and waiting to hear more about it. wave

My impulse is to dive in, but I'll wait for reviews, too, as I'm still entrenched in my current game. Anyway, I need to see if it will play on the Steam Deck as this laptop ain't going to be working any time soon. (if ever....)

Looks good though, but I wonder how much of the original "eurojank" appeal would be lost. That was part of the joy of it, even in more recent games like Elex.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

The remake was released two days ago. wave

GOG is giving players the original Gothic for free when the new version is purchased.

I caved in and bought it in advance, ages ago, so only need to download it now !!

Hoping it will be a BIG treat, seeing as I very much enjoyed the โ€œlong agoโ€ original ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

See if this works, Mad:

Equipping a weapon

If this isn't just what you are looking for, we can find something else. smile

Thank you SO much, Marian bravo I can now equip a weapon !!

[Although it seems to involve more stages than I've ever had to use in other RPGS.]
Nevertheless, I did a test by equipping one and successfully killing my first foe devilchili

So I'm very grateful โœจ

That's great, Mad! I don't think I would have figured that out on my own either. wave

And there may be a quicker way to do this that does not involve quick slots? Not sure. Hopefully it will all become clear eventually! smile

Oh, Iโ€™m plenty happy with what you found for me, Marian.

As you know, Iโ€™m not the best RPG player, but there are some I DO like to have a go at - so help is always very welcome wink

I remember that mad dash down the hill towards the first camp, when the weak enemy chasing me seemed like an insurmountable obstacle. lol

Gothic's interface was always a bit clunky. I finished replays of Elex and Elex II a few months ago and the clunk was still there. It's built right into the games. Part of their charm.

I certainly like this game but my progress is extremely slow !!

One reason being that I've not yet worked out how to put markers on the the only map I've recently, finally, managed to acquire. [It has NONE.]
And so I'm lost a lot of the time crazy

Nor is there a "compass" type aid visible anywhere on screen shocked

Since making it to the 1st Camp Location, which is really the end of a type of prologue, I HAVE accumulated a LOT of quests (which I would label as side quests - to aid one of the main quests) but have not yet completed a single ONE rotfl

A big factor against me, though, with my terribly wimpy combat, is that there are no cheats available at all.
[All the other Gothic games I've played at least offered some and so I am hoping they might be forthcoming for this one too as time goes by or else I'm going to suffer many horribly painful deaths scared]

I would think that there might be some cheats available for the game. If not now, pretty soon.

And this supposedly includes how to put markers on a map. Let us know how it goes. smile

My main focus upon reaching the Old Camp has always been to learn lockpicking....

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Yes. But in the remake of Gothic 1 acquiring funds or enough stuff to sell and amass funds is no easy task. A lot of the good stuff is in locked chests and I enter the camp with ONE lock pick and not enough wherewithal to purchase more OR pay for training in that skill.
That may be because Iโ€™m playing on the lowest difficulty level - but with my poor combat abilities I thought that to be the safest ๐Ÿ™„

Hi Marian.

I've checked the site you linked for me (thank you) but I can't find any info on how to apply markers to maps myself whilst actually playing the game.

I can download maps to inspect whilst outside of the game from several sites .. with some having a few markers already placed .. but that's not really what I want ๐Ÿ™„

I also found this:

Quote
In the Gothic 1 Remake, you can place custom markers directly on your map by opening it with the M key and clicking to drop waypoints on points of interest, traders, or uncompleted quest locations.

Maybe that will work?

Thank you for your continued help, Marian !! It is much appreciated ๐Ÿ‘

I have actually been looking at that myself and can, indeed, now drop a marker during game play. But havenโ€™t yet found a way of identifying what the marker is for with respect to use down the line !! ๐Ÿ™„

Regardless. I DO really like the game and despite the agonisingly slow progress am enjoying it ๐Ÿ˜‘

I am glad to hear that you like it. That's the great thing about single-player games - you can go at your own pace and no need to hurry. As long as you are enjoying yourself, that's all that matters. smile

I totally agree, Marian grin

And by doing just that I have managed to completely finish several - although obviously nowhere near the numbers ardent Action players achieve, or at the difficulty levels they use lol
