I played this until I got to the point where I leveled up, and could not for the life of me work out what key to hit to open the character menu to level up. After faffing around for a while I gave up and will leave it until I decide to actually play the game in its entirety.

I note also that the lockpicking seems far more complicated than in the original game. I loved the lockpicking mini game in the original. It was far more intuitive.

Otherwise, the remaster is pretty nice and absolutely true to the original game, where a juvenile scavenger can take you out in two blows as you run down the hill towards the Old Camp.

I really liked the game hagatha, but found aspects of it way too difficult for me.

Especially the ridiculous, multi-stage lock picking !!

Yes, I'm definitely going to have to look at a couple of tutorials for the lockpicking. I always play a sneak-thief/ranged character in this game so I will need the skill.

Of course, I remembered how to level up. It popped into my head last night while I was watching TV.

Gothic is very difficult at the start, even for a seasoned player who knows the game. All of the Piranha Bytes games are.

Well, for the past Gothics, I've always been able to use God Mode for the more serious fights. [Being the wimp fighter that I am.]

But this new version, using a new engine, requires a "trainer" to enable cheats and I just haven't felt like messing with one as yet 😏
Although whether one would even work for the seriously silly new lockpicking I have no idea.
[But I'll probably end up trying one !!]

In the meantime I'm thoroughly enjoying myself with Gothic 3 The Enhanced Version 😁

Apparently there is a mod for the lockpicking on Nexus/Vortex but it's not an auto-install. If I get really annoyed I might go that route.

I did manage to open three locks including the two needed for the Old Camp but honestly, the amount of fiddling makes it really onerous.

I have to say, the Swamp Camp is pretty impressive in the remake, though hard to navigate.

Now I'm going to go and find a few mole rats and scavengers since that's all I can kill at the moment.

I know that there is a logic to the lockpicking. If I can find a lock somewhere I won't get caught, I'll spend some time decoding it. It does seem awfully time-consuming, though, even without the difficulty.

Otherwise, the game is thoroughly enjoyable. Piranha Bytes obviously dialled down the brutal starting difficulty in its later games like Elex, but they did stay true to the spirit of the original Gothic here. No map, no markers, no money, no help whatsoever at the start of the game.


EDIT: Well, that's a drag. All of a sudden I can't equip things like arrows and certain foods. The only solution I've read on line is to make sure that my keyboard is in English. It is.

Game uninstalled, sadly, as I really wanted to play this.

I’ve experienced keyboard problems of a similar nature in the past but never to the extent of having to uninstall a game 👎

Did you try this:

Reset or Change Keybinds: Delete your default key bindings in the game options menu and switch to alternative bindings, as the default configuration frequently bugs out and blocks hotbars or inventory actions.
